Best way to repair a torn seat

no not my trousers, but the seat on my GS1150 GS Adv.....it has a tear about 1" long on one side, low down near the edge. The seat is a low dual seat -not sure of the make, but can find out.
Does anyone know if it is possible to do a repair myself, or where I could get this repaired- any help appreciated.
Pic below, for what it's worth !.... I know the gaffa tape is hiding the split, but only pic I have for the moment.

There are plenty of companies who customise bike seats who can re-upholster damaged seats. Try the small ads in the back of MCN. A car seat upholster could also do the job.

I am aware that some bike dealers in Edinburgh refer shorty customers to a local car seat upholsterer who cuts down the foam padding and then re-covers the seat to lower the ride height. Your local bike dealer may similarly be able to recommend someone.

i believe it's the optional low bmw seat.

Thanks for all the advice, and yes I think it is the BMW low seat.
Also , been PM'd details of someone who can repair/re-models seats, so big help.

On the Letters Page in RiDE this month, some bloke recommending a product called Tear-Aid. It's a US company but they do have a UK distributor. He sez the Type B kit sorted his TDM seat, good as new after a year's use and cost less than a fiver.

Seat repair

My wife clipped the rear seat of my R1100RT with a buckle on her walking boot. The simplest repair was to leave the old cover on and just get a local upholsterer to recover the seat.

All that has to be done is to stretch the new material over the old and staple it in place. No need to remove the old cover. Took 20 minutes.

So before doing anything look up the yellow pages and take a ride to get some local quotes.
