Got mine about a decade ago.
Impressions done at NEC show. Arrived and didn’t fit. Had to drive to Maidstone to get new impressions done. Second pair fitted ok . Thirteen months later second trip using them then right speaker failed. £80 to fix .
On first day of next trip about six months later the left speaker failed on day one of two week trip . They wanted £100 to fix . Threw them in the bin . Never again.
Only ever used on trips and worn about four times.
Ok, my Custom Fit plugs don’t have speakers but they fit much better than the UEs ever did and are much better quality . They cancel out much more noise but allow music streamed through speakers to be heard just fine and in fact greatly enhance the bass compared to when not worn

I'd guess it wasn't a home visit you had!

When inserted, how far in is the outer face of the plug?

As in if you pressed the palm of your hand your ear can flex flat without pressure on the plug itself?

Well in my experience compared to a Google search their customer service was shite .
First pair took six weeks to arrive . Didn’t fit.Second pair took eight weeks . When I chased the order after a month they apologised as order hadn’t been put through .
First speaker failed 2 weeks out of warranty . Zero goodwill offered . Repaired speaker took 6 weeks to arrive and then other one failed on next trip . Just my experience. Sorry if it doesn’t align with yours .

Used custom fitted Ultimate Ears plugs for years, but tried Loops for live gigs a year or so ago. They claim to filter out the volume but let you hear the high notes. Utter tosh and they are expensive at about 40 quid a set. Found them comfy and really good on dirt bikes though and occasionally on the road.

Recently bought 3 sets of Loop lookalikes on AliExpress for a pittance. No filters, just solid rubber, but they work really well.

It was reviews from Trust Pilot, the OP wanted recommendations for ear plugs, not ear plugs with speakers in. So I have bog standard moulded ear plugs, not super duper ear plugs with wires and speakers.

I had exceptional customer service, made the plugs, the filters were too much, so I returned them to have different filters fitted, brilliant service. But for the hard of reading - it was 8 years ago.

I have the Christmas tree type Alpine ones, they have an insertion tool (basically a plastic tube the fits over the "trunk" which makes them a lot easier to pit them in your ears

Using the same (race version), have found them to be really consistent and they're dead easy to keep clean. Used to use the foam cone types but found they started to make my ear canals ache, especially on long trips or in the heat

My last pair of custom plugs were ultimate Ear in 2021 and recall my original pair were also but not 100%

I cannot comment on after sales service. They were their top model with filters but not speakers

I should have returned them really but never bothered.

They just don't work. That could be because the impression was taken by a third party or because the silicone is just too stiff.

Without a helmet on they seem ok. Put on a lid though and just a turn of the head at a junction is enough to break the seal. They are then as good as nothing.

They seem to be reliant on the seal from the outer ear rather than at the canal entrance.

This could be a they do not sit as deep or just because the silicone is not flexing enough as the ear is pressed back by the helmet lining.

Basically a right nuisance once set off to have to stop again to reseat. I just gave up with them after a few tries

My first pair are softer and deeper and never came out.

Different strokes for different folks but I can’t get on with the Alpine ones at all. Nice case though. Lazer Lites for me.

I have to say I am with Mr JonnyBravo on this one. Used in my old word of Traffic and Firearms I have used the yellow and pink Laser Lites for as long as I remember. Buy a big box from Mr Amazon that lasts a very long time. Trim the end off for a comfy fit and use many times until dirty or they don't fit any more ( too much squeezing ) They are brilliant. personally I would never consider "custom fit" but that is just me. I hope you find what you need.

Alpine Motosafe plugs for me. Had several pairs, all good. I have a burst eardrum (courtesy of a 338 Lap mag with muzzle brake being fired next to me without warning), so am sensitive to ear plugs, many hurt the eardrum but I've found the Alpine Motosafe ones to be fine and wear them in helmets with the larger JBL speakers in them with no issues.

I’ve worn these for twenty-odd years (not the same pair ).

Military range. I was zeroing to work DOPE out for a new rifle platform and new loads. Tuns out the real "DOPE" was the fella next to me who didn't hear the cease fire order, I removed ear protection and a nanosecond later he let off his Lap Mag. I knew it wasn't good as all I could see was stars and a tickle of blood from one ear started. He got a bollocking, I got partially deaf.

I’ve got a big box of Howard Leight Max Lite plugs that have done me really well over the years, I use them until they get mankey or don’t roll up so good.

Saying that I was recently given a pair of Loop earplugs and they are very good and seem to be my go to now - how long that’ll last remains to be seen.

I used EAR for years. I tried the custom fit jobies cost over £200 same problem put the helmet on and useless.

Switched to These about 6 years ago they work a treat. Block the noise but can hear the intercom perfectly. Last about 2 years of regular use before the silicone looses it's seal. They have 2 levels both work well red really does block out more noise.

The thing to remember we're all built different, what works perfectly with one, won't on someone else.
