better horn

anyone fitted a better horn than standard if so what and how please my 1150 had a magnum that was well loud but the horn on this 1200 2009 model is a bit of a damp squib:nenau

Have just fitted a Magnum and a Nautilus to my 1200 GSA. I couldn't fit the Magnum in the same location as the original, but moved it slightly and used the original wiring - no problem. Wired the Nautilus through the supplied relay, with the relay coil fed from the standard horn supply. Will post pics of the installation, with which I'm pretty pleased. However I believe the the Nautilus is too loud for general purpose hooting - much more suited to using on tw*ts that don't seem to know the basics of lane discipline on motorways and dual carriageways etc. Am therefore thinking about a handlebar mounted switch to isolate the Nautilus.....

Loud is best

I've fitted Steibel horns for the last 3 or 4 bikes. Generaly if you need to sound the horn, you got the time to use your brakes. The horn is only used to tell car twats that they're driving is boll345xs and everyone is now looking at them.
Mickey your on the right wave length.
You just gotta give 'em loud and bright.....what... YOU DID'NT SEE/ HEAR ME !!!!!!!!

You could ride around with a horn the size of the Blues brothers loudspeaker and some **** would still fail to see or hear you coming.

After 2 weeks of daily commuting into London on my SE I do think the basic horn is a bit too tame.

Its removed my greatest pleasure which is to give a long cheery toot to the drivers on their mobiles - particularly effective when their windows are down in the summer.

Sadly its just too embarrasing to make a little parp sound, so I'm going to have to find some other way of passing the kourney, or start following the advice in this thread - but I'm worried about starting down the whole NN route.:thumb2

In 45 years of motorcycling and in 250,000 miles on just the four valve boxers I have never needed the horn :P

Sometimes, when going to a job (slow traffic on a two lane dual carriageway) I'd turn off the Twos'n Blues because as Pukmeister says ... they have no idea where you're coming from! Without them you could slip quietly past, with them on they would be dodging about like bloody ants in front of you, trying to get out of your way. I have known of several police motorcyclists killed or seriously injured by being T Boned when they've had their Twos'n Blues on

Don't get me wrong, I've used my horn ... but only as a rebuke after some miopic car drivers folly, but I'd already seen what they were going to do and took counter action.

As I said, if the horn works for you then great, I just hope that long may it continue to do so :thumb2

But one day it might not... what then

You can buy the Stebel Magnum from Halfords. There by avoiding the NN route.

And for those on here that don't use their horn...... Happiness is a LOUD horn. Especially with so many retired/retarded people round here.:rob:rob:rob:rob:rob:rob:rob:rob:rob:rob

That's one thing I love about the GS. It exudes sensibleness.

Even when being ridden by a 'ooligan.

I'm tempted to do a track day. But I wouldn't know whether to take the GS or the ZZR.

And surley you'd use the 'orn to get the GSXRR1CBRRRRZXs out of the way???

Are the Magnums they sell in Halfords, the Stebel, only i noticed they are made by mountney

I bought my last one in Halfords as it's easier to take back if it goes wrong. The STEBEL ones are packaged as STEBEL. I don't know if they are the same as Mountneys...

Make your mind up Micky

I know what your saying, but age gets the best of all of us.

I used my horn today, filtering on stationary traffic on the M25, after 3 or 4 miles of it , the caged drivers decided to get out and chat on the motorway.
loads a fun,
ride safe

Well, my first thought would be that then I'd choose between stopping or going around the incident.

I'm a bit shocked that an occifer of the law would need to ask, I think that they covered this in the CBT...
