For anyone that might be interested, a friend of mine that is a retired police motorcyclist is going to be running a Better Riding Course out of MK police station from Thursday 1st March(evenings), for 5 consecutive Thursdays. It will also include the option of a Machine Handling day(bit of fun round some cones on the OU car park) on Sat 17th Mar, and a Ride with a Police motorcyclist on Sat 24th Mar (always good fun)

Cost is minimul, about £20ish.

If interested contact me initially by PM or hughatmkamdotcodotuk, and I'll put you in touch with Rod.

Is it a basic advanced course???

You taking the mick? Or serious question?

Anyway, if serious, I'd say its aimed at people wanting to take a look at advanced riding. That can be either a novice wanting or needing to improve, or someone thats been around a while that wants to refresh their skills after maybe a few years of bad habits emerging.
Lets say i'd be amazed if anybody that attended all 7 sessions came away without firstly enjoying it, and secondly learning something from it.

Was serious!

Have done loads of advanced stuff, looking to find a "bit more"!

;)

Hi

i think there is only so much you can do with regard to Roadcraft, the IAM and ROSPA seem to cover this well and at a certain point all you can do is try to refine it.

I think you can go further with handling skills,a nd really need to get off public roads to have a suitable environment for doing "drills"

My favourite is the California Superbike School, and you can even start cheaply with books and DVD's, although you can never beat having an instructors trained eye guiding you the books and DVD are a good start.

Most other track based schools I have been on do not really teach you how to ride better (and how to keep on improving yourself) and typically let you bomb around and advise on what cone to brake at - and seeing as they won't line your 3,000 mile Alps tour with cones is pretty useless once you leave, whereas the CSS gives you a toolkit (I am sure some other Schoold do this, but check out what they do before parting with cash)

I would imagine Off Road Schools can also add a lot to a riders skillset and want to do one myself this year, I rode a few mates dirt bikes as a kid and caned knackered heaps of crap (Suzuki B120 / Honda CB 200 anyone?) around a mates field and think this helped, I am no motocrosser, but I don't crap my pants and dive into the hedge if the bike moves a couple of cm on some loose tarmac.

Sorry matey, only just noticed this post. Bit late now.

But there is another option. You can contact him on rodatmkamdotcodotuk, I dare say he'll offer an alternative option
