Better than the road to Applecross?

Totally agree with Mike, much better road. Likewise, I don’t like the Applecross road (love Applecross though) - too many campers and tight turns. Road from Torridon good though. 👍

I’m certainly in agreement with you re this road being a better road to ride. We’ve ridden it a good few times now. 👍🏻

Yip ridden that road a fair few times. Used to stay with Mrs McBain in Davar B&B in Lochinvar. But the price of accomodation in the Highlands is bonkers now.

I think the Bealach na Bà is an iconic road and it's a must do for a biker.
Agreed though it's not the best riding road.

I must confess i've not done that road on your video and it does look amazing, thanks for sharing i will add it to my list 👍

For me the Bealach has always been a tick box road only.
TBH even more so now with its volume of traffic.
Agree the vid route above is a nice one and plenty of better biking roads than the Bealach.

The B869 carrying on northwards from Lochinver is more of the same IMO. I add on going to Stoer Lighthouse for the views back towards the Assynt hills.

Achnahaird beach also has some stunning views at the Achiltibuie end of the start of the Wee Mad Road, IYSWIM.

IMHO the Bealch na Baa is a victim of the NC500 malaise of overcrowding especially by campervans / convoys of sports cars. I'm glad I "did" it before the NC500 existed, and, that at the top I could see the stunning views over to Skye without getting blown off the bike.

Not exactly on the subject, but there used to be a fantastic hotel in Lochinver that me and the missus enjoyed few times.
Don’t remember the name, but it was perched on the hill and almost looked like a military place.
The guy that owned pretty much owned everything near by and didn’t care for annoying Americans etc - so deliberately kept the star rating low (by closing bar early etc) to fend them off.
Think he sold to MacDonald Hotels few years ago and now it’s fortunes!!
I never paid more than £75. Probably only going back 10 years too.

Nice video. I agree, there are loads of better roads than the Applecross pass, I suppose since the inception of NC500 it has just become something that anyone passing that way must do, even though Applecross seems a bit ridiculous now with its airstream cafe, assive car park, no camping on edge of Loch et al.

I remember riding upto Ullapool one year pretty early having made good time and to prevent me going in the pub too soon, I headed out on that road on my own and as you say thought it was other worldly in certain parts.
