Why would the dealer *not* change the bevel box oil at the 12,000 service? It's just dawned on me that it wasn't done - nothing on the invoice and "33 74 500 Oil change in rear bevel gears" appears in a list (of one) titled "Maintenance items deselected from the regular check" but not ticked, as the items above it are.

Every two years, so it should be done ?
Strange:eek:
Phone them. surly its not an over sight ?
I change mine every year, takes less than 8 minutes !

The bike's only 1 yr old. The service schedule I have says 20,000 km (12,000 miles) or 2 years for the bevel box. I interpret that as "the sooner of". Is it now just every 2 years, regardless of miles?

I thought that "they" hooked the bike up to BMs magic machine is that printed out what should be done. This depended on time distance and what was done last time. Anyway that's what I was told.

Above is the BMW LC service sheet. It clearly states 12000 mile service and that the bevel oil should be changed . It should have been done at 12000 miles. Or two years.
600 mile running in service then every 12000 miles or two years. I dont see how that can be misinterpreted ?

Chaz, Let us know why they didnt change it ?
What dealership ?

Will do when I've found out. Coopers, Tunbridge Wells.

I've asked the question. Geezer I spoke with was baffled too. He's gone to find out...

Good as gold, he came back to me apologising. It should have been done... Offered to do it FOC when I next pass.

I've seen those photos of broken shafts - so every time the engine oil is changed (by me) it's new bevel oil and Castrol moly on the splines.

You're spot on. I have the service sheet in front of me for the 12k service I had done on mine last week and there's no mention of 33 74 500 because it was done last year which was the 2 year mark.

This is what the bevel box oil looks like when it comes out at 13.5K miles. I'm glad I realised it hadn't been changed as required at the 12K service, as it would have not got done until 24K miles, most likely.

Is moly on the splines not part of the dealer service?

Is it easy DIY?
