We were touring in Croatia last week, and discovered the Bora wind.
We were on Krk island, and the wind was gusty but manageable.
The bridge to the mainland was closed to motorbikes and caravans for about an hour, and the wind was strong when we crossed.
Travelling South on the Coastal road the wind was strong and gusty.
On rounding a bend, a gust blew me across on to the other side of the road (nothing was coming!) and then blew us and the bike on the side. A stranger riding behind, also 2 up with luggage on a GS was blown over, and his wife had to be helped to the side of the road by a motorist as she couldn't stand or walk in the wind.
Damage to the bike superficial due to the slow speed, and protection by the panniers.
The police arrived and gave assistance, saying the road was closed to motorbikes, but the only info we found about closed roads was either at the tourist office or at www.hak.hr
We then had to stay in Krkvenice for 2 days with many other bikers as the road was closed to bikes in both directions.
On the way back, a week later, sections of the motorway were closed to bikes, North of Zadar.
The wind is strongest in the area around .
