BMW have no idea of managing expectations. And their computer system seems to be crap at scheduling.

7 weeks ago, I ordered a 1200GS.

I orginally get a delivery date of 19th May.

Last week I was told that it will be the 24th!

Today I'm advised that it will probably be the 30th.

(But that it might even be the 28th.)

Each time, I have to make the call to find this out. And rearrange my work and domestic diaries accordingly.

And I can't use the VFR much because the rear tyre is no longer legal! Which is a pain because I use my bike for commuting. (Oh and I've sold my luggage too!)

Mind you, I suppose that I should know better...

...the same thing happened to me when I bought a BMW car 18 months ago.

I feel a sternly worded letter coming on!

So be warned.

Kai

Have a look at the small print on the New Vehicle Order form.

It does give them some leeway. My bike delivery was delayed by 10 days (not much) but the bike was in the dealership the day I paid over the deposit (delay was down to TT parts not arriving, no surprise there then!)

Even though it wasn't really their fault and it wasn't a huge delay, it did allow me to get some "goodies" by way of compensation without really trying too hard.

Go in, look glum and seriously disapointed, maybe there's a silver lining for you in there somewhere!

To add a little balance to things I am so far very happy. Ordered my 12GS last week (Thursday) and told bike should be with dealer by end this week so pickup on June 4th.

Got a call from the dealer today (Monday 23rd) to say bike will be ready this weekend May 28th!!

So I have the bike for the long-weekend. :D

The real prolem is that when you're waiting for delivery of a new bike, days feel like weeks. Time drags to the point of being almost static. It's hell on earth. And then the day eventually arrives. But it doesn't. There's a problem. Back to hell again. It's the equivilant of a prisoner waiting for parole. But worse because you haven't actually done anything wrong. Then when the day finally arrives it'll probally be raining...

Kin 'ell mate, cheer up! New GS on the way. Great summer of riding ahead. Don't let your frustration get TOO disproportionate.

I bought a sofa three months ago. Still haven't even seen it let alone sat on it. So know how you feel.

Don't know what the average wait between order and delivery is ?

My experiance went to the showroom , lado booked my bike and spec on the computer with an expected delivery of 3 weeks.

Garage rang 2 weeks later , bike was in they had to fit the alarm and were waiting for the top box to come in.

Picked it up bang on the 3 expected weeks !

Only problem I had, I gave them my intercom to fit while they were on with the alarm apparently they could not find anywere to fit it (its a starcom and slightly larger than an autocom), well took me about 30 mins to do just bundled the minute amout of tools you get with tie wraps did away with the huge tool roll to contain them and got it under the seat.

Hey Sean! that sofa that you ordered wouldn,t be a "virago", would it?

Just looked. There isn't any small print!

Hoping to get the thing this weekend, although it still isn't in the UK yet!

Mind you, I have just been told (by the dealer) about the fact that the luggage won't have any locks for 7 days. Whats the flippin point in that then? :(

I got my panniers last week. Alan told me today that the locks should be in by the end of the week. As I understand it, the luggage is held in stock but the locks have to be ordered in.

So what have they been doing for the past 8 weeks then?
My guess would be that they can't order up pannier locks until they've got an ignition key no. ........

However, it should be noted that Dutchman did express some concerns about pannier lock security to me recently.

Aye well you may be right. But they could have told me that before.

Anyway, at this rate I'll just be happy to have the flippin thing this weekend. Booking in for the first service the following Saturday, so hopefully I can pick up the locks then.

3. {} The Vendor shall not be liable for any failure to deliver the vehicle occasioned by his inability to obtain it from the importer, if the Vendor is unable to supply any accessory (factory fitted or otherwise) the Vendor may at his option either substitute a reasonable equivalent or delete the accessory from his contract. If any accessory is deleted the Purchase Price shall be adjusted by the price thereof. The inability of the Vendor to supply an accessory shall not constitute a breach of contract or entitle the Purchaser to reject the Vehicle.

4. If the Vendor fails to deliver the Vehicle within 30 days of the Estimated Delivery Date the Purchaser may give written notice to the Vendor requesting delivery of the Vehicle within 7 days of receipt of such notice. If the Vendor fails to deliver the Vehicle by the end of such period then the contract may be cancelled and any deposit paid by the Purchaser shall be returned to him and the Vendor shall have no further liability.

The above and more 'small print' is on the reverse of the New Vehicle Order form and is a BMW(GB) standard form.
;)

As far as locks are concerned any dealer can make your locks up in about 15 mins I have done loads of them.

Well thanks for posting that.

My order was printed on a plain peice of white A4. No terms and conditions received at all. I've just checked.

Rather strengthens my case I think.

The R1200 case locks can not be made up like the 1150 ones I used to do. If you order the locks as soon as you have a frame number (they are ordered to frame no not key no), the computer kicks out the order but doesn't tell you. So you have to order locks virtually at the point of shipment, so they can arrive after the bike. If I was BMW I would include 3 locks with each bike to encourage the fitment of genuine luggage. How difficult would it be to do it at the time of production when they are fitting 3 locks to the bike anyway.

12GS locks can actually be coded at the dealer - all you need are a couple of donor barrels to supply the tumblers as there isn't a repair kit available as there is for the 1150 etc.

New RT, ST and S are factory only for single key barrels as the barrels can't be dismantled ... not without a big hammer anyway ;)

Why not ? I must have made at least 30 locks up in the last 14 months, they are done in exactly the same way as the 1150 are. All that you need are spare tumblers, and a little knowledge, as pl 2 and a half has quoted
