Beware, your WC GSA is VERY easy to steal.....

My insurance said BMW alarm is worthless since it isn't thatcham approved, even if it was, it makes little if no effect to the theft of the bike. Proven above Instead they recommend a tracking device as that way it is traceable untill bike gets broken down and wankers dispose of it.

It is the society that we live in, where everybody is to scared to say anything because those scumbags might be armed in one way or the other.

The day that my insurance company insist that I chain my bike (which means the need to carry a chain), is the same day that I sell the bike.

Do you think that there is a realistic prospect of your insurer ever demanding that? No? Great; you'll be keeping your bike for some years yet .

Whys that then?

I carry a chain every day on my bike when I'm touring abroad or uk - fits in a specific bag on rear pillion seat - perfectly weight distributed

No drama, no fuss - at least it's there if I want to use it

Sometimes you have to park on the street overnight and I use it then, if the hotel has a garage I don't

Carrying a lock and chain is easy-peasy if you use a bit of forethought - just like the bike thieves do :)

What chain & bag do you use, JB?

So, there is not yet any direct and irrefutable evidence to substantiate the opening post's ascertation that the bike was started remotely and then driven off by the thief.

Still, early days even so.

An article here:http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news/keyless-rfid-hack-thieves/
talks about a device that can boost the signal given out by your keyless bike to that it 'thinks' the key is a lot closer to the bike and allows it to be ridden away (once started, you no longer need the key fob).
Here is an overpriced solution: http://www.fobguard.com
The same protection can be achieved by wrapping your fob in tin foil. Basically putting a faraday cage around it.
So no need for locks, just a roll of tin foil, job done ;)
(I have keyless, but use a minimum of a disc lock when away from the bike, but in the interest of science tried wrapping the fob in foil, and you cannot start the bike no matter how close you are.)

Does BMW do a security chain and lock?

I wouldn't want any old tat on my GS, thanks very much....

So you think that a ting tong lock and chain with a BMW badge on it will be superior to others ??

You must be a salesman's dream.

Whoosh...as in,straight over my head.
You reckon?
So he was posting tongue in cheek, full of irony and sardonic wit?
And I missed that?
Yeah,ok,if you say so.

Has to be. :thumb

Doesn't it?

Only thing that strikes me about the video footage is what crap quality it is. Hardly worth the digital medea it is stored on. This applies to almost all security cameras.
