Totally dead I would think.

I went through last year in mid Oct on the way to San Sebastien and it looked shut !!

I went to Biarritz out of season (rugby tour many years ago) and while it was pretty quiet, it did have a certain charm and quaintness about it. I went back in season the followign year with my wife, and preferred it quiet to be honest.

(Incidentally, following on from that tour, if you're passing near St Jean Pied-de-Port, please keep your eyes open for my arse. A game of rugby after too much red wine led to me throwing it up at half-time.)
