I remember see ing a post recently about the "Big Bike Challenge" run by Andy Cadney. Does anyone know if it is running this year or not?

If it is not running who would be interested in a Big Bike Challenge on the UK Rally scene?

It seems that with the Dakar going 450cc there is less interest in the Big bikes - but a number of us still preffer the larger beasts and will continue to race them.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Apparently its not... well not for this year at least. I had a chat with someone in the know yesterday and it seems they've seen sense and the error of their ways in changing the rules half way through. Apparently they are looking to restrict the big bikes and big teams rather than just outright bad anything over 450cc

Yeah Bri, I know but the big bikes don't stand a chance as it's basically an open category from 450 upwards plus your results mix sports classes with trail classes.

Something like the the Bike Bike Challenge would be something we 600cc plus riders could run to get a bit of competition going amongst similar types of bikes.

We should get together at the Beacons and have a chat about it. Just need to know if it worth doing it again. I have also emailed Andy for his thoughts.

i think its a great idea, for what its worth ithink that the rally scene is a lesser place with dwindeling big bike entries, afterall thats why it started i enjoy the challenge of the hp2 and the banter that it produces. we cant compete against the lighter bikes , but the rallys seem to be leaning toward the sportbike, but thats where the bigger entries lie i understand that,so abig bike challenge would be a great idea to run within the others. ANDY you did a great job and sadly miss the web site. see you all friday for a chat.!!!!!

Sorry looking at results overall there is a 650cc bike in second place overall that's pretty good i think and there are awards set up for every diffrent class in trail and sports bike.

I agree Bri, you can't argue with the facts - but this is a Dakar rider who has some level of sponsorship and support - not exactly in our league. Most big bike riders are there for the challenge and will never achieve the level of skills either you or Boundsy has.

Boundsey would still be winningthe Big Bike Challenge as it was run but at least we would be able to have a little bit of competition over the season.

And as a point you don't produce results beyond the top 40 so we don't even know our rankings in the UK Rally Championship.

It seems that the rally organisers want to do more with big bikes - so a little championship for big bikes would help.

From my point of view the "Big Bike Challange" idea Andy had was a great idea - and got me back into racing on a bigger bike (I don't really want to go back to riding an enduro bike).

Catch you all at the weekend.

you got a good point i hadnt riden for 23 years until i saw the big bike chalenge.i realy enjoy it and wished i hadnt got 12 to 15 years on the other guys!!!!. by the way any body interested in hp2 team for alto rally next year??????

Andy has emailed me and said he IS going to continue running the Big Bike Challenge in 2009 - we'll wait and see if any results are up dated and the site is refreshed with timely information.

not sure which results your looking at but our latest results include 73 riders results.

After several emails last week the Big Bike Challenge looks to be on again for us guys that like bikes over 575cc.

Andy says he is going to refresh the site and update the results.

Can any one who has photos from the Tarenig, Ryedale and from the Beacons send them to me ([email protected]) or Andy Cadney for inclusion in the site.

Hi everyone,
I am going to start running a version of the big bike challenge - we will be putting things in place just in time for the Cambrian - we will run a set of results for this year from the events already run and the Cambrian and Hafren.

We will post a web site up soon and also try and get some stickers for the Cambrian (maybe)

Anyone who wants to input on the subject - the events that qualify, don't qualify - the scoring system etc.

The name for this will be The "Big Bike Rally Challenge"

All feed back and ideas are welcome.

Burt

sounds a great idea the big bikes are not entering like they used to. i think something is needed to get them back to the rallys as now they are dominated by enduro bikes and riders maybe enduros are getting tough . the more the better as far as i am concerned! but we need our own championship to bring more big bikes in to rallys

Moly,
We have logo in the making for the challenge but I don't know if I'll have time to sort a web site !! I have the results in a league table up to the Radnor - do you have a link to the Radnor results.

I also think after this yer we should leave out the Dyfi from the Big Bike Rally Challenge.

I'll PM a copy of the proposed logo / bike stivker over.

Burt

Moly,
I can't PM you as you are not subscribed to the site - email me via Adventourers, or join the site proper like, so I can sent the info over.

Burt

I have a design all sorted - I was going to get peoples views on a points scoring system for the challenge.

I have a web site being built and domains registered.

I'll keep everyone posted the challenge will be for 2010 - unless people would like me to put together 2009 and use this as year one.
