Big End or Main bearing has gone - need independant near to me (Basel)

Well just got back from a tour of Europe (France- Belgium - Germany - Austria - Italy - Switzerland..)

I was about 1km from home and it just starting running rough.

We've stripped it down and checked the Oil and found particles so looking for someone to strip it down and replace either the Big end or Main bearing

Not really keen on paying Swiss BMW dealer prices. I can trailer it to France / Germany as required...


Anyone know a place in Europe thats worth a look ?

Main bearing failure is normally a rumble; big end is a pronounced knocking. Both will result in low oil pressure.

Are you sure that the fault?

Well its more of a knocking than a rumble, and we've found metal particles in the oil

The oil pressure light was intermitant but that was when coming off the Sustenpass about 2 hours before and I figured that was due to heavy braking downhill.

It went only about 1km from home. We've dropped and replaced the oil, checked the pistons with the plugs out. We've cranked it over by hand ( although all seems normal).

...But it ain't running smooth at all and we've got particulate in the oil...

Sounds like a bolt has been dropped in the crankcase to me...
