Re: ..ou se trouve Beau Geste maintenant?

In Texas militia shows mostly these days...re-enacting the white flag scene from "Hell in a Very Small Place" (the siege of Dien Bien Phu ).

When the plates shifted

Made the Khartoum to Juba run once by DC3. Lost most of its fillings at D Day, piloted by Brit for Kenyan Air services. (Not the more gung ho and non avian KMS, of darkest Africa and other arse hole and nether region regional disputes repute).

The plates shifted somewhere over Malakal. So too my fillings.

I would give you an ISBN number if I thought you'd be interested in low prose..but it never made Pan's published list.

I recall vomit streaked floor. Loose and wobbly trim. Wright Cyclones?.. gasping at height designed to foil Sam 7's....volatile coke (in flight human refuelling)..a consignment of Landmines (crated)..livestock (not crated).....

feeble artillery strike on Juba (aimed from Blue mountains) at beer time....handpumping AVGAS... a dutch Cessna pilot in Orange jump suit who'd arrive from Zaire....I won't quote his words on this holiday sweat trap

blah blah

care to spill the beans..piloting said DC8 or merely ballast?

My previous steed was an R1100RS and it was a very good bike. It had plenty of zip, good handling, brakes etc...It put up with my 30 mile daily commute quite happily and was a very reliable bike. I chopped it in for my '02 GS because I fancied a change basically.

I've ridden just about all the bikes in the BMW range at one time or another on test rides or as loan bikes and I've been impressed with all of them. The cruiser made me smile, the GS made me grin like an idiot, the 1100S made me think I was Randy Mamola (I'm not though), the 1150R was great and the Rockster was very tempting.

But the RT was brilliant. It needed a few more revs than my old RS did to get it moving but it seemed to like it. The handling was superb and the comfort even better. If it weren't for the fact that the roads round my way are so awful I would probably have gone for one over the GS....still might if I can't sort the screen out properly ;)

Surely a case of 'content over style'. That said, i do like the old trollope's looks.

I had the 1100RT for about 4 yrs and can say that the Bike really did handle well - You can only do 70mph but she managed to do much more in the right places! and could corner better than most sports bikes.

Just swapped over to the 1100S Boxer Cup and what a change the bikes handling is superb even in my hands!

Aspire to 4 Bikes - me too

1. BM Boxer Cup
2. BM 1200GS
3. BM 1150RT
4. Rudge "Multi"

I am friends, a quarter of the way there!!

RT 1100

Bikerbear,
I have an R1100RT and although I am only a very average rider I agree about its capabilities .
I recently went to Scotland for a few days riding with my 14 yr old son and we had a blast !
Whilst trying to keep up with Pragmatix on his 1150 gs I ended up riding at a " spirited " pace and the old RT went round corners a lot faster than I imagined , whilst still remaining composed and well within its limits - all this two up and in comfort .
It might not be everbody's cup of tea but it is probably the best in it's class , all things considered .

That trip still makes me grin ..... the roads were virtually empty and the scenery fantastic .......... the bike did the job without fuss or hassle .....2000 miles of great biking .
Safe riding ,

Steady Eddie

This may sound utterly irrelevant, but it effectively means that the route to South Africa will be once again open.

I was spending a lot of time in Juba at that time Ben. Have to say I don't have any dreams about returning there. Which border did you cross to arrive in Shit City?
