First the bad news
, with 3 weeks to go to our trip to Austria I notice an oil leak from the rear of the engine, although not a major leak (it was building up to a drip on a run) still worrying with a dry clutch!! I stop at Vines the following Saturday morning to get an opinion as to whether it was serious or not, only to find Darren and Spencer off. The guy covering the service dept gets a technician to have a quick look at my bike and he says because of the mileage I am going to be doing its probably best to get the bike sorted, so to speak to Darren on Monday. I ring Darren on the Monday to find they have technicians on courses for the new bikes so they are really busy and officially they are booking work in for June! He says not to worry he will get it sorted. So last Saturday when I call in to the open day I see Darren and he has a look at the bike and agrees it needs to be done before we go away. So it was booked in to be done yesterday and I dropped it off Tuesday evening. I picked it up last night and the fault was the gearbox input shaft seal (like others I have read about) the clutch was not contaminated so was not changed.
Hopefully that was that and it will give me no more trouble and we can look forward to a stress free trip
. I think I would have been a bit worried if it had not been fixed, that the clutch might have started slipping, the leak could have got worse and gone on the rear tyre or the gearbox could have gone bang, if it lost enough oil!!
So I am really grateful to Darren for fitting the work in, the workshop for fixing it and Vines in general for pulling at the stops and caring when it mattered to me
. I would rather it hadn't leaked in the first place but that’s a different story, faults are made more bearable when you get good customer service. So I have a week in hand to clean the bike, sort the intercom out and pack and look forward to some lovely twisty roads when we get to the Tirol
