Thanks for all the replies, it certainly has given me something to think about. I am a little cautious of going with autocom as I believe they are now the same company as starcom.

Well the Sena smh10 have gone up bought mine off flea bay £279 for a twin pack not two months ago a very good piece of kit, range no as far as I would like rider to rider but I can link to 4 headsets either individually or have a 4 way conference, blue-tooth to i phone fine and I have had a phone call the other end would not believe I was on the bike at 70 mph.
Just not as instance as wired but horses for courses.
Iv had Starcom Autocom units never had trouble with any of them the Stacom plugs are a bit small and fragile compared to Autocom.

Have you spoken to Starcom about your problem? I have had a Starcom unit for about 10yrs and I`ve never heard of that problem before.Do you use a foam mike sock?

I have one on mine and the Mrs bike, both work well, nowhere near as awkward to setup as some would have you believe, I have fitted several types to a few bikes now and all have been quite easy.
Chainspeed knows the kit inside out and can recommend on the system and setup - and fit it for you if you want.
Autocom went bust and Starcom bought them out, but the Super-Pro stuff is still the Autocom design and IMO as good as coms gets, Ride Magazine tested a load of kit recently and the Autocom won by a mile for quality.
We have been using it for two-up touring for about 7 years, it has always worked fine for us, easy chat at cruising speeds, fair music quality up to 3 figures and even at 150+ on the Autobahn we could just about hear each other.

Sena SMH10 has good functionality and sound but will die if used in heavy rain.
My friend and I had this issue within 24hrs of each other on the same trip, if you only ride in warm sunny climes I can highly recommend it.

Have had my Autocom Super Pro Avi for 3 years now, adding extra bits to the system over time. All, with a few minor exceptions, bought off eBay taking my time for the price I wanted to pay. A few new bits, cables mainly, from Chainspeed. Now have a pretty comprehensive set-up; GPS, phone, bike-to-bike with PTT etc. All in all it works exceptionally well, is well made so I expect it to last and as the system is so modular replacing any parts when/if they eventually fail won't be too much of a pain.
One thing that applies to any bike comms system is the placement of the helmet speakers, this is critical for best performance. The faster you go the more relevant this becomes. Read the install instructions carefully and then install into your lid being prepared to experiment. It will pay dividends in the long term and contribute to your satisfaction. In ear monitors negate this requirement if you can get on with them, personally I prefer the speakers.
Can't fault my Autocom or the service by Chainspeed. I expect it to be working for many years to come. Might have been their failing that caused them to go bust, product just too reliable with no existing uses wanting/needing to upgrade. As I understand it the Starcom buy-out hasn't changed the product/manufacture. Both brands are being run autonomously.

I have to say thought that it appears that with most sets that i have seen they come with all the bits and pieces you need for all your connections, especially the twin sets but Autocom you have to buy all the bits separately which is going to add up at the end of the day or have I got this wrong?
As an aside I have the system 6 BMW lid which I'm led to believe you can't attach anything too, is this right? if so does anyone have experience with BMWs own make?

I have scala G9 fitted to system 6 helmet. The other Bluetooth units have shorter boom mikes and due to fitting unit behind the tinted visor slider the booms are too short. The G9 boom is just long enough to reach centre of the helmet.
I used to have autocom super pro avi. I find G9 is much better especially in volume.

Send your unit back to starcom for repair, much cheaper than a new kit
