Hi
I don't have a garage so the beastie lives outdoors.
Does anyone do a bike cover that fits a GSA with Tourtech panniers in place
(no top box), or do I have to remove them everytime?

My mouth has to be this big so that both feet can fit in

I used one of these at my last address, before moving to a place with a garage.

It was very baggy on my bike without panniers fitted and claims to fit upto 1500cc i.e. goldwing. I used to use a couple of extra bungy cords to stop it flapping in the wind so it should extend over your panniers.

Thanks Wessie, looked on the site and it seems awfully cheap, under £20,
did it tear easily or is it really just a good bargain?

I had one made by Sound Distribution back at the end of 2004 when I got my R1200GS. Measured it up to fit GS with BMW panniers and top box, so I could leave the whole shooting match outdoors (no garage - sigh!).

I e-mailed them the measurements, they had it made up, it arrived within a week, it fits beautifully, and two years on has very few signs of wear and does a good job of keeping the beastie dry. And you can put it on when the bike is hot. Highly recommended. About £65. And the service from SD was top class.

Look at the list below - these are standard - but that's what they look like!

It is very good for the money. I used it for 2 winters before moving and it is free of tears. It's stored away in the provided bag ready to be used if a) I move somewhere without a garage or b) become rich enough to own more than a garage of bikes!

It's made from some sort of cloth and coated with a pvc like material. So, it is not breathable: it does have 2 vents under velcro flaps. These work very well to eliminate condensation and reduce billowing in windy weather.

The main weakness is the single elastic strap: it is not good enough to keep the cover on the bike in windy weather. There is a simple solution: 1 long (or as I used 2 standard length & interlinked) bungee cord(s) threaded under the shaft drive and over the seat. A ROK strap would be even better.

I have recently acquired an Oxford Stormex cover in the large size (advertised ast fitting goldwings etc. It fits my GS with panniers very nicely. A bit more pricey at £50-60 but really well made and robust. Not for carrying around though, even rolled up it's a bulky package.

Lightweight, packs down small (into its own stuff-sack), water-proof breathable.

Been using one on my Adv with TT Zegas for two years and it also gets taken with me when abroad (useful anti-sticky fingers device).

Go for the Large Tourer one in their outdoor range.

db covers

Ordered a Deluxe Dust Cover for a 1200 GS ADV over the phone
i told the chap exactly what bike i had a few times just to make sure,
cover arrived 2 weeks later and it was too small.
It turned out he'd sent me a 1150 adv cover as he thought they were the same,
4 weeks and i'm still waiting for a bigger replacement

NOT RECOMMENDED :spitfire

Well all I can say in their defence is that they don't even list the 1150 on their website let alone the 1200 but going by the website size guide I ordered one for the 1200LT (in fact I have a new one now, same size) and it fits the 1150 Adv fine!

Perhaps ordering on-line is the way to go! :nenau

I've used one of these on my Pan European whenever I go up to town or leave the bike at the airport/railway station. Must be 5 years old and no problems. Fits even witha 52l topbox but I never bother with the middle tie because the elestic hold it tight under the panniers.

I've been using these covers for about 7 years now. never found anything better. :thumb :thumb

After about 18 months continuous use the sun's UV rays will get at it and it will basicaly fall apart.

I simply buy another one, I think £19.99 every year and a half is good value :thumb

BUT these covers have excelent ventilation. Any moistuer trapped under the cover (for instance the bike is wet when the cover is put on) can escape easily through the vents allowing the bike to dry, therefore there is no issue of trapped moistuer causing corrosion on the bike as with some much more expensive covers.

Just to warn you though!

I ordered one for my 1200 last week and was sent the wrong one this was a tech 7 cover NOT IMHO ventilated.

On contacting customer services at www.busters-accessories.co.uk over the phone 08702413041 I was told these had been labled wrongly and the Delux cover for 1500 cc bikes was currently out of stock. So you might have to wait a while for one (they sent me on for a 750, but I haven't tryed it yet)

I throw a rope over it to stop it flapping in the wind. :thumb :thumb :thumb
