Bike Dealers - how many will go to the wall in 2011

Bet she looked after you well, if you still remember her name after 30 years:augie

I remember them all, happy days.
I was an apprentice in the Peugeot dealer and their workshop was next to ours. Shaun had a mk1 Le mans and Quickie a Z1000, those two guys could ride a bike. I bought my DT175MX from there :thumb2

So how did the government recoup the lost VAT :nenau

Oh, VAT on EVERYTHING went up, Fuel duty went up :blagblah - still no free lunches in our Utopia :blast

Can't wait to see this years council tax rise, mine has gone up nearly 50% over last 6-7 years, as my pay had slowly declined, overtime dried up :blagblah

Well at least all the benefit scroungers got a cheap car by trading in their death-mobiles and taking finance they will never pay back, probably all flogged the cars by now to buy more crack and are back in 20 year old Rovers.

Still, its good to know your not bitter or twisted by it...:thumb

dock gate 20 (HD) has gone tits up in Southampton...... and they sell HOGS only!.......

too much money spent on building a "lifestyle" dealership and having loads of HA wannabes/pretenders turning up on a Sunday to drink coffee whist the store has to staff up to sell bikes......

Actually Harley took away their franchise - nothing to do with the lack of sales...

Thats handy for that new dealership thats just opened in/moved to Guildford then!!

Quite a few dealerships closed up down south ........... but not all for lack of sales volume (if you get my drift).

Stratstones HD, Thames Valley HD both gone in the last couple of months, Dockgate are same group as TV, Towcester HD are no longer they are a victory dealers i think, has to be something about Harely Davidson the company as Statstones have hardly gone bust !!

I agree, the dealers don't help themselves. I'm willing to pay a bit more just to see and try stuff.

But on occations I've asked them to order stuff in, even knowing I could get for less on line and weeks go by with me chasing them and no result, promises of calls to let me know progress never happen.

In the end you think stuff it and just click, the items arrive a few days later.

My local HGericke shop is great though, service is everything.

Bikers are getting thin on the ground now, when 17 half the people I worked with rode bikes. All the people I work with now just think bikes are dangerous. Too much bad press.

Must be something to do with it. My lad is 17, and one of only a handfull at his college on a bike, although he's not exactly keen really.

But insurance on a car is rediculous for him. We certainly couldn't afford to pay it, and as there seems to be naf all jobs around either for his age, he can't either. So surely 125's should be way more popular.

I guess its a combination of things. The tests don't help, although in reality the cbt is all it takes at this stage. In fact the guy we bought his 125 off was in his thirties, it was his only transport and always had been. He just keeps retaking the cbt each two years, and buys a new 125 each time as well.

I've tried to push him towards taking a full test, he's tried twice to take the theory test and is now demoralised, so we're leaving it a while. Maybe give him a nudge in the summer before he starts the next course, especially if he can get some work.
