Bike Mag Test - I'll have to sell my GS now

What's the matter guys? Some magazine says that there's another bike out there that they think is a little bit better than yours! Wow, bruised ego time.

NO, i wouldn't listen to their opinions whatever bike they chose - Magazines have always been the same - keep the advertisers happy, thats how they make their money :D Plenty of bikes out there better than the GS.

So gather up your teddies and put them back in the pram cos the biggest thing wrong with BWM's is the perceived snobbery and elitism from many owners.

Perceived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb :tosser

I have no time for bike 'tests' and some of the cr@p that is spouted in the interests of maintaining advertising revenue.

But, in fairness to Bike, they have been a lone voice in the field of mainstream bike journalism in singing the praises of the GS, starting with the 1100 all those years ago and, to be fair to them, despite the recent 'test' (sic) they are still carrying a torch for the GS and encouraging people to get out there and try one.

'Tis a funny old world when some owners seemed to get a chip on their shoulder about how great the GS was but how it was never recognised by other bikers / the bike press, but, when 'their' bike is promoted by the press to such an extent that it becomes far more common/mainstream they then winge about how it's been bought by 'fashion victims' - eat, cake and have it come to mind

I couldn't care less *who* rides a GS - the more people that get the chance to experiance such a great bike the better :thumb

ktm

glad i'ved made the right decision for once,.I wouldnt want to be a victim of fashion like all the ewan and charlie "wannabees" dressed up in thier rallye suits. Apart from that i am quite happy with my up to now brief foray into ktm ownership.and will be more so when civil is finished with the panniers and i get the heated grips fitted.

I'm happy with my 950 too, didn't get a GS, only had £6k and you don't get much GS for that, in my opinion. £6k bought me a mint, Aug 04 Orange beast, 5000 miles, Hepco & B luggage and heated grips. It was always a toss up between the two and I would have been happy with either. But the Bike review made me smile lots because that's the first time its been on top of what I thought was/is a class leader.

I like the forum/community you have on here, always entertaining. It sort of makes up for how ugly the GS is.

How was the GS a better bike a couple of months ago? Basically the GS is overexposed, so the KTM is cooler, that's the reason it won imho. I would prefer a bike that was less popular than the GS, something that you don't see 100's of when you go to a bike show or race meeting.
I was excited about the KTM when it came out, I really wanted one, but when i saw one at the bike show in Dublin i just thought it was just too ugly to justify buying. I still really wanted it, but i just don't want to drive around on something that looks like a cross between a horse, and Kryten from red dwarf.

Funny thing is, these are touring bikes, and in the article they mentioned the BMW's indicator switches plenty of times, but only once briefly mentioned that it's shaft drive instead of the KTM's chain. That alone would make me buy the BMW. In the same issur of bike they had a "Big names for next year" section, with KTM at the number 1 spot, and a load of nobodies behind them. It's almost as if Mr. KTM dropped them a few quid.

Interesting the price you paid for your KTM. Was that a private sale or purchased from a dealer?

Private sale, Bob. Not many about, even in showrooms. First private sale for me, was thinking about haggling more off it, but seeing as the bike was mint and the kind seller picked me up from the station miles away, I handed over the huge wad of cash and rode off into the sunset laughing and grinning.

Not grinning at the moment though, had an off but luckily his insurance taking full liability and i'm with carole nash, who are taking care of things pretty well at the moment, I'll post my experience with them once its done and dusted.

Whatever we ride, we ride.
