I have a 2610 and a 2820, but I have no Bike power leads (don't ask!)...

My question is:- Is it possible to use the car speaker/12v socket lead

Basically cut the speaker end off and connect it to the wiring loom..?

You can probably tell I don't know much about electrics :augie

Yes.:thumb

But this doesn't apply to all Garmin GPS units where the voltage should be reduced from 12v.

I have not a great deal of electrical knowledge but i would say yes you should be able to use it, I have the car speaker and was thinking of doing the same but I bought a power cable with open ends with in line fuse from TT, I am sure you can get them cheaper than TT but I was buying some other stuff at the same time.
I am sure I saw them for less than a tenner, ill have a look where I saw them

Just had a quick look, £25, I paid that from TT. Have you tried Wanted Section (daft question) I know, I did and got nothing then after I bought mine someone else asked and got one

Sorry David I cant find where I saw it for under a tenner, I did just see a site advertising them for £14 but they were out of stock :blast

A little depends on how quick you want one, but I am sure one will turn up in the for sale/wanted section before too long

Good Luck

The bike power lead is Garmin part 010-10495-02 or with cradle and bike power lead the kit is 010-10495-00 either way finding them maybe difficult, try www.buybits.com as gps accessories parts place.

That said, if using car charger unit, don't cut end of but fit inline socket and wire it into the bike power circuit. As for finding a new car charger unit again darn difficult.

If you got the genuine a Garmin bike power lead it's then simple to add helmet speakers as the power lead has a connector to plug helmet speakers into, I know it's more expense but if you wanted audio as well it would save splicing into the car power/speaker lead.
