Hi

I've just received my new Autocom from Chainspeed and was wondering what the easiest (and best!) way I could use the included power lead to power the unit from my 1150GSA?

I've seen another GSer hook it up to the GS's horn fuse in the fusebox through a remote fuse setup - has anyone got any other suggestions or - better still pictures - of the way I should wire it in?

Cheers!

Anders

Anders, On my first 1150 GS I powered it up from the pilot bulb in the headlight.. that way if I needed to talk to someone I just flicked the lights off and everything went quiet ;) It obviously only works with bikes with a light switch.. but it was really handy when the music was on... on group rides it meant I could pull along side others at traffic lights and have a conversation...

Can't do it with the new one as its permanently lights on...

If you do a search I have covered the correct fittings for the 1150 and 1200GS's before on how we fit them here.

Rich :beerjug:

Mine should be here tomorrow and I plan to mount it all in a little water proof food container and keep it and the ipod in the tank bag. Power lead into the bag from the accessory sock on the side of the beak.

Mounted mine on some closed cell foam which is glued to the airbox top. Power from horn via an inline fuse which also feeds the Zumo, earth direct to battery.
Struggling with the helmets at the moment if I put the speakers in the recess (Arai) then my ears dont fold back! May have to do some sponge surgery.

Damn that's a good idea. I did have my Tomtom running off the lights but when I fitted the autocom I figured I'd do it properly and set them both up to run off an ignition switched live. Starting to think I should have left them on the lights now, if I talk to anyone I need to keep blowing on the mic to keep the volume down so I can hear them. Loving the autovolume on the kit 300 though, means the music stays at a comfortable background volume all the time.

Thanks for the tips guys!

I ended up doing as MikeP suggested (and others!) and built a remote fuse setup from the horn fuse (2 spade connectors and 2 female spade connectors), and took a positive feed from this to a 2ndry 3A fuse that connects direct to the Autocom's positive line.

The -ve/earth feed for the Autocom was crimped to the 4mm bolt on the seat roller holder as recommended!

Thanks again,

Anders
