A1 york has always given top service so

is it?

Robsons York- gave me little or no attention when i popped in in fact I was left with the impression "we can sell as many as we want so f**k off" - nearly put me off buying a BMW for good, ps give you 10p for your bike and be grateful for that

I don't use dealerships - but I have never heard a bad word spoken about Rainbow. Unlike some dealerships I could mention - they don't treat you like a second class citizen because you ride an older bike - or a bike that wasn't bought from them. Also they don't make you wait weeks for a 'slot'

All this is purely anecdotal mind.

I bought my GS from Robsons last year. I also got pricing from Alan Jefferies and Rainbow. I don't remember the exact figures for the other dealers but there was very little in it so I went for my closest dealer (Robsons).

Whilst I wasn't welcomed with open arms I ordered the bike on a Monday as they didn't have the spec I wanted in stock. It was delivered the next day and I picked it up on a Thursday, could have had it earlier but my insurance certificate didn't arrive until then.

Servicing work has been fine and when I've ordered bits and pieces from them the service has been good.

No doubt others will have their own experiences but whilst Robsons wont win any prizes for charm and smarm I've got to give a to them on the basis of the service I received.

I bought mine from Jeffries and they are pretty good. But now I go to Rainbow and they are better. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Have used Jeffries on a number of occasions - and found them top people. sales - Richard Watson - and Dan & Paul in Service/Parts.

I found that being absolutely straight with them helps...

My wife and I went into Robsons to puchase some boots for her, it seemed a lot of trouble to then to go upstairs for diffrent size!! While in a couple arrived on a rt with matching wbm suits they were offered coffee we wern't!!

They have lost out iv'e purchased 7 wbm bikes since !!

Hmmm. Rainbow. I'm not so sure. They were the only people to lay spanners on mt 1150 before I bought it judging by all the receipts I got with it. The previous owner even bought his tyres there. However when I had it serviced by an independent BMW specialist, he showed me the spark plugs. The main plugs were like new, but the secondary plugs were rusty and ancient, they weren't even the same brand. He was convinced they'd never been changed from new. Same applies to the fuel filter. I know loads of people like and trust Rainbow but.....

Robsons basically gave me the impression they didn't want my business even though I was after a new GSA and the miserable old git who works in there looks like a smile would crack his face. Owing to this initial impression I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Jeffries level of service varies depending on who you speak to and has ranged from good to poor in my experience.

My next service will be at Rainbow as I've heard good things and they are a similar distance away from me as Jeffries.

I only will be using dealers for servicing whilst the bike is in warranty though.

I bought my 1200GS from Alan Jeffries in Shipley and was really happy with the service so far. The mark of a good dealer IMHO is how they treat you if you have a problem so I hope never to find out.

Hi all,
I also have been looking to buy a gs and have been ringing around to get the best price. I was surprised to get a frosty reply from some dealers when I asked how much for cash.
It seems that the Ewan McGregor affect has really taken hold, i have been told by many dealers that sale are up year after year since BMW sponsored the Long Way Round. Some dealers would not budge an inch yet others would. One dealer practically told me where to go when I said that I was offered a bike at over 1K less than his. I think what desertyellow said is quite common. It could be that they didn't want to discount there bikes because i just wanted to buy, not being local to them I wouldn't travel back to service the bike there but take it locally.
Luckily for me I had a good deal with my local dealer and the guys there are down to earth and approachable not like others.

I have purchased both New and Used Bikes from two of the Dealers mentioned above and have used three of them for Servicing. There have been both Good and Bad experiences with two of the Larger Dealerships. For routine Servicing, Tyres etc Barrie Robson's couldn't be faulted. For the better Financial Deal the Bigger Dealers came out ahead. For a good "all round" experience I now go to Cooper's up the A19 at West Bolden. Realistic Deals, Knowledgeable Friendly Craic, Coffee on Tap and the Bird that Strolls through from the Car Section to The Mini Dept every 10 minutes is an added Bonus. !!

Hello all new here, long time lurker first time poster.

I too am in the process of ringing around for prices at the moment. Some dealers will not flat out quote on the phone, others want written quotations for any attempt to deal(like that will ever happen) and others will be extremely professional and ring back to find out if they can beat any deals offered.

Generally, I think the dealers are now realising that they sell an extremely expensive niche product, and that they have to actually make an effort.

I am impressed by a couple, and not necessarily by my local, although they are trying their best. The one that gets the deal will be the one that offers the best price. Servicing is a different issue as I will ride out to wherever I get the best service (not price).

Agreed, its not my local one but have visited a couple of times and really like the set up.

Pidcocks at Long Eaton also take some beating too.
