Having just picked up a new 2010 GSA and being a virgin to BMW's, can someone please tell me if the Bmw breakdown includes repatriation in case of accident?
I asked the dealer and they said they "think it does", well think doesn't work for me!!!! Another dealer said " MCN testers had accident and got repat..", but I'm not an MCN tester....

Are dealers all this vague when asked questions?

I'm beginning to fink so!!!

What dealer(s) gave you that crap response? NAME AND SHAME.

Why didn't you say to the twat in the dealer that "think it does is not good enough and can you go find out please"? :nenau

Why don't you do a search on this site, there will be loads of information on it.

Let me give you a tip. If ever anybody leaves their bike anywhere for repatriation, always take lots of photos of everything, bike & belongings

That's generally why you have insurance:nenau

BMW's own breakdown cover MAY cover you, but generally breakdown insurance doesn't cover bringing your bike back after an accident. Thats a whole different kettle of fish.

Check any insurance small print and it will explain all and specify your cover.

I meant standard insurance.

Franky I wouldn't want to have to rely on BMW in the case of an accident.

I'd keep decent insurance (no, not ebike, decent insurance)

That depends. If it's cheaper/conveniant for the insurance company to have it repaired where it lays then i think they can.

I've had mates who've had both scenarios. One they brought back. The other they had repaired locally and he had to go back and collect it. Bare in mind my two examples are from the eighties.

Carole Nash bike insurance covers repatriation.

I know.

I've used it twice

If you have a new BMW you also have a nice little booklet which details the conditions of the warranty. Mine went into a lot of detail about repatriation of the bike and riders, type of transport offered (rail and air) hotel accommodation, etc.

Surely a read of this will be much better than any opinions on this forum or from BMW employees who may or may not have read it.

Re. the repatriation question. To quote your reply in another thread:

To answer your second question: Possibly yes, depending on what question(s) they may have been asked and by whom.

Not sure if its the same for the policy you get with a new bike, but the BMW insured emergency service (which comes as part of the approved used warranty) says:

'Wherever possible, we will endeavour to arrange assistance by a dedicated BMW Customer Service Vehicle. If the problem cannot be resolved and the vehicle is immobilised we will arrange for recovery to the nearest BMW Authorised Dealer (or to the BMW Authorised Dealer nearest to your home address).
If the vehicle cannot be repaired by the Dealer within four hours, we can provide a replacement vehicle or arrange onward mobility for up to 2 working days. Alternatively, we will arrange hotel accommodation if this is the most convenient solution.
Once the vehicle is repaired we will arrange for it to be redelivered back to you.
For assistance required within Continental Europe we will repatriate you and your vehicle if the vehicle cannot be repaired before the end of your planned return date.

AND

'Provided that your vehicle has been recovered by BMW Insured Emergency Service to a BMW Dealer (other than your local BMW Dealer) we will arrange for it to be returned to your home address in the UK.
Alternatively, if you wish to collect your vehicle personally, we will pay the appropriate costs to enable you to do so.
If your vehicle is repatriated from Europe, we will organise and pay for it to be returned to the BMW Dealer nearest to your home address in the UK. If you then wish to collect your vehicle personally, we will arrange and pay the costs for you.'

Actually I have looked at the manual, and it doesn't say jack regarding repatriation in case of accident. Being new to Beemer I just asked a question, that hopefully would be answered with sarcasm, and yes it was.

I would like to thank you all for your indepth replies, especially Steptoe who actually gave me the answer I was looking for! :flag

Actually I have looked at the manual,

No you didn't or at least you hadn't, you asked a dealer.

Having just picked up a new 2010 GSA and being a virgin to BMW's, can someone please tell me if the Bmw breakdown includes repatriation in case of accident?

Good to see that you have had your two questions answered though.

Go in peace.

I got the following response from Mondial Assistance (the company BMW outsource to do their recovery service). This reply is relating to the "extended" insured warranty that you can buy after the original manufacturer's warranty has expired. The fella also provided a customer helpline number, worth calling to check. Make sure you state that you are on the ORIGINAL 2 years manufacturer's warranty cover not the insured warranty.

Dear Mr Supercool dude,

Please find confirmation that your policy does include accident, although I would suggest you familiarise yourself with the respective terms and conditions as per below;

The customer does have the full ES cover included and we would assist in the even of a accident, however there are some exclusions relating to an accident with regards to Warranty repairs. What we always advise customers is that we would assist in the even of an accident but most Insurance Companies stipulate that they need to be the first point of call and most offer a recovery service. So…in answer to your question, yes we would assist but there are exclusions. I have attached the handbook which you may want to attach to your email response to the customer.

In terms of warranty cover, the extension does have a different cover to that provided with the motor cycle from new and again you should fully familiarise yourself with the conditions.

Should you require any further clarity please do not hesitate to contact our customer helpline on 0871 200 0199.

Best regards
Lee
