Hello,

Grapefruit (www.grape-fruit.com) are looking for qualified bike riders in the Manchester area. The idea behind the activity is to show people that it is better for people to take a bike to work rather than go by car and to demonstrate that a new product is better and quicker than others. They are also potentially looking to launch a bike courier service there in the future which would offer ongoing business.

As such on 25th Nov will be taking people to their offices in Manchester starting from Albert Square so it is imperative that you are comfortable with taking pillion passengers. You will be arriving at 7.30am and then riding people around from 8am until 12 noon and we need for you to have good local knowledge.

The pay is £80 in total I will send you an invoice that you send to me on completion of the job and we pay you within 30 days and we don’t take tax or national insurance.

We will need details from you such as jacket and helmet size in order to get the branded clothing made up for you as well and licence details etc.

If you are interested please call Denise on 020 739 9149 or 07711 764 961 or email [email protected] with your name and a contact telephone number.

I will look forward to hopefully speaking to you soon and getting you booked in for this activity!

Thanks

Denise

I take it you will be covering the bike insurance for hire or reward and the liability cover for carrying a pillion for money then ???

I suspect not :augie

I was just thinking the same thing. All my insurance docs have stated quite clearly, not for hire or reward.

Plus, I don't even have pillion cover on my own bike anyway :D

Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea, but it sounds to me like the bike taxi schemes in London.

What would be more appropriate would be to get a scooter manufacturer to lend them a load of 50cc city scoots.

Left this up as it's had a few replies, but moved it up the country a bit. I'd think that there's a bit more to think about than just turning up and earning £80.... Do so completely at your own risk :augie

Yes please denise, ive not had my licence long so it will be a good oppurtunity to practice with a pillion passenger, il try and locate my rear seat its in the garage somewhere, can you put me down for a medium tourx 3 helmet and a rally 2 suite or the rukka jacket as well please, im a bit short of funds at the min so can you forward the 80 quid in advance as the fuel to get there will be tight, look forward to hearing from you xxxxxxxxxxxxx ps can you send me a photo xxx

EDIT: Reading ming's comment below Denise may be cute enough too :green gri

No leave it on

Denise might be fit !!!

Ride for a ride and all that :thumb

Just seen this . OK so its clearly spam however I'm going to call them and get the skinny tomorrow before I nuke it.

There are some valid points made about insurance etc but reading between the lines they are not asking for you to provide a motorcycle just be qualified to ride one. Therefore they may provide a branded bike ( Virgin perhaps :nenau) fully insured and all you have to do is demonstrate an ability to ride / have a license. I would have though they'd want a good standard of rider though and somebody who is personable??

I know a couple of guys in here who are unemployed at the moment who may enjoy the chance to make £80 for a mornings work poncing around on someone else's bike, getting in the press and maybe even hanging around with some cute promo girls if you are lucky :P.

Being asked to provide an invoice and get paid within 30 days is not unusual/unreasonable either. I did some mystery shopping stuff in my spare time for a company that checked out credit card promo staff were not mis-selling and they operated exactly the same way. I only did it a few times but I always got paid.

There has been other stuff like this that comes along (i'm thinking of some of the bike Mag stuff ) that people want to see deleted right away as spam but if it potentially benefits members why not leave it . :nenau

I'll call them and see if I can get more information.:thumb2

thanks Bryn/Rushy

it 's still spam.... more front than bloody Sainsburys... imho

nowt like a bit of free advertising eh:nenau

just might be a chance its relevant spam:blast

hell i must be weakening:eek:

Righto, the heads up on this is this:
Denise contacted me at work today (Hein Gericke Manchester) and said she is acting on behalf of a new business setting up in Manchester promoting the new Vespa.
The idea was the gentleman wants a few bike riders who have been riding for some time (probably for experience and road sense) to take these new Vespa's and use these to take people into work to not only promote the new Vespa, but to try and make people aware on how much quicker and easier it is to use motorcycles to get to work.
She asked if i knew of around eight "Bikers" who would like to do this and for their trouble they would recieve £80 for around 4 hours work.
i have said i would be interested but suggested this site as an introduction to ask local riders of a more mature and sensible nature if they would like to take part.
i could have suggested some other forums but i felt that it was better to put her intouch with a forum that has mainly sensible, more aware riders on it than say a forum full of peeps that only want to speed around acting complete dicks, therefore completely failing at what the business man is trying to achieve.
there have been some good points raised, especially the insurance side as i have yet to get further details from her.
the phone call i had with Denise did seem very genuine and going off what she was requesting i thought this would have been a good starting point for them in their quest.
had you been given these facts before she made contact im sure folks may have been a bit more receptive to her request.
if i find out more details ie insurance etc i will post them immediately.

cant fault the guy for his idea and how he wants to promote the new Vespa.
im happy to help anyone who gets off their arse and wants to make something succeed. :thumb2

Yeah, that's all very well. But the key question still remains - just how fit is Denise? :D

They are doing a similar event in Birmingham on Nov 11th, they asked our riding school to provide the riders and I will be participating. Four hours of buzzing around the city on someone else's Vespa, ligging it with good looking promo girls and getting paid £20 an hour for the privilige. I'm in! :thumb :D

bloody hell a vespa scooter, the last time i rode a vespa was 1967,and i kept falling off it .do they still have 3 gears on the left side hand grip thingy.
