Bike starting on part throttle

Came to get the bike out for work this morning, started it as normal and the revs immediately climbed to about 7k. Sounded a bit rough too.

Immediately shut it off, tried the opening/clsing throttle fully with ignition on, then tried starting again but the same thing happened.

Was in a rush so shaved it back in the garage and took the car!

Any ideas what it could be? I'm thinking TPS possibly?

If its revving that fast it must be getting enough air, which means the throttle butterflies are open.

Check the throttle cables from twist grip to splitter box then to each throttle body and make sure they are all seated correctly.

Refusal to run below 1500 revs would be not working idle stepper motors. Screaming its nuts off has to be stuck throttle(s). As Pukmeister says, check the throttle cables.

Cheers guys, will take a look in the morning in the light. Thinking back, I did just remove the spotlight wiring loom from the bike since last starting, so may have dislodged the throttle cables or something.

Take a look at where the cable goes into the cable splitter on the left side.

I pulled my bikes one out of there and it was a cnut to see and had same symptoms

Yep, had a look this morning and sure enough where the cable goes into the box it had pulled out slightly, no doubt from when I removed the lighting loom.

Thanks for the help - I'd jumped to the conclusion that everything these days is an electrickery problem, whereas it was just careless fat fingers!

The throttles use good old bowden cables from end to end. With luck they'll outlast the bike.
