I am running an autocom logic (with my Zumo) and looking to expand the system to incoporate a bike to bike radio.

Trouble is, my usual biking buddy doesn't have an Autocom but is thinking of getting a bluetooth headset (Scala or similar)

My question is : if were to get a pair of radios (say Midland G7's) would they be compatible with my Autocom and his Scala set up??

Thank you in advance for any advise.

Rob

No. Bluetooth devices (clue is in the name) use bluetooth for B2B and dont generally attach to radios.
You would be better off hitching your Autocom up to a phone and his Scala to a phone and phoning each other.
If you are both on the same phone service it should be cheap as chips (free on Orange magic numbers etc).

Rob,

Ideally you would need to mirror each others bikes, so a full comms and radio used on each bike. The Scala is very limited on its connections, and as far as I am aware does not allow for any bike to bike connections.

Running phones to talk between the bikes would not be a cheap solution, ok I guess if you get free calls. Buying a full system would be better and you can also add other bikes running radios as well so you would not be stuck with the two bikes talking to each other.

The Midland BT headset will do bike to bike up to 100 Meters but it isn't going to do it very well at that distance. I cant remember the blurb that came with it but there was also an interface to connect to a radio but I cant remember if it was wired or BT. I will dig the stuff out and have a look. I never hear anyone talking about the midland BT stuff but its pretty good and reliable for driver to passenger and phone or gps at the same time.

Rich,

I agree with your point of view.

I just need to convince my buddy that the autocom route has got legs!
