bike trailers

I am considering getting one of the motolug trailers as they are collapsable has anyone had practical experiance of these units, did a search which described 'bikelug' trailers bending at the towing hitch with the wieght of a 1100 g.s. on it are these the same units under a different name? advise please

The trailers have this hinging arrangement to facilitate loading:

On the early versions, the hinge was locked in place with a button pin on either side. The whole affair was a bit 'iffy'.

The trailers now come with the same hinging mechanisim but a solid through-pin replaces the button pins. It's fine.

I used one for a while with my 1150 it was fine the best advice I was given was to use karabiners on the straps used to secure the bike +2

oh and get a nice secure box to keep all the pins and washers etc in so you don't lose any damhik

If not - then how about:

Someone gave the advice -that if you are towing an unloaded Bikelug - have a centre-upright piece of fence post, with cargo straps pulling down to the trailer - to emulate a bike.

It puts all the joints of the trailer in tension/compression rather than rattling around with no weight on them

I use the bikelug and have used it for some time now with no probs in fact
the black G S on there site is mine the pick was taken at there factory .
took my bike down there just to see if it worked and it dose and tows fine to

I've used fanums single bike lug in morocco a few times and they work very well.

So well i aquired a two bike lug off the for sale section of the board, but haven't used mine yet.

I bought a single lug earlier this year and picked a bike up from Holland - no problems apart from the sprung pins which fell apart when I took the bike off back at home (at least they lasted that long).

I will alter the pin bit myself - quite annoying as they were anyway.

The trailer (could have ) cruised happily at 80 - 90 mph all the way.

It does take up quite a bit of room when dismantled - more than you'd think and I am thinking of replacing the assembly pins with bolts as they do tend to rattle and vibrate.

No chance of towing the trailer empty as it's very light & bouncy.

Worthwhile if you're going to use it.

I have picked up a k1100lt and it was rock steady on the road

Check out the website for the "Trailer with dog dome and vent".

They also make trailers to tow WITH your bike (god knows why you would though)

Any idea how much these go for? It just says 'price on application' on the website - which usually means 'expensive'. I do like the idea of that winch though.

They ain't cheap, but they are the best, I found one on fleabay [Ex AA] for less than £200 which only needed the coupling changed from ring to a ball hitch [cost a tenner IIRC]
One of the North Western Tossers ended up with it
I think he's happy with it as it's not been up for selling on, since

The one on Fleabay was a TITAN 660 which is a Treales with upgrades to AA / RAC standards
