I’ve got a bit of a problem with my 1150GS and seeing as it’s my only means of transport it’s a pretty serious problem! At the moment the bike is refusing to start – fuel pump whirls up, starter turns the engine over but it simply won’t catch. Once I’ve given it a few tries fuel starts to pour out of the balancer shaft that runs between the two header pipes – which doesn’t seem very healthy.

Everything was fine before I took the tank off yesterday afternoon – sized up a replacement plastic tank and then refitted the original tank.

The problems started this morning – rode the bike over to my parents house, bike started fine first thing this morning then whilst cruising at about 60mph I notice a big surge – similar to when a bike runs out of fuel. It only happened once then ran fine until I got to a set of traffic lights – filtered to the front of the queue and as I went to pull away the bike stalled but then fired up straight away although it then ran very rough all the way for the rest of the journey.

I’ve done a search for similar problems but can’t seem to find anything.

I have removed both plugs and checked for a spark – both are fine. I’ve checked that the throttle cables are correctly seated. I have QD connectors on my fuel lines and have checked that both are connected properly. Finally I have checked that the black rubber caps are fitted correctly to the throttle bodies. I’m now starting to think that it might be a serious problem but I’m out of ideas.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what could be causing the problem and how I should go about resolving it?

Any help very gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

If no one else'll step up to the plate I'll have a stab...........

If you've got a spark and fuel but still no bang then presumably they ain't coming together at the right time - so I'm guessing a timing problem.

Hall Effect sensor trouble.

Try Blood Sweat and Gears it's the lower PDF you want.

Hope it helps.

Well, just got home on the bike:). I’m embarrassed to say this but it was caused by the feckin side stand kill switch:rolleyes: . What’s worse is I’ve been caught out by this little gem before and had completely forgotten to check it:doh . Huge relief though as I was starting to think it was something really nasty. Must clean my bike more often.

Thanks for the help though Boxer.

Having done my DAS on Hondas, then owned a VFR and Blackbird, I thought all bikes had to have a sidestand warning light. When I got my GS - no light. But, as I subsequently found out, there is a sidestand switch.

A warning light would have given you the clue to this one:)
