Hi
I realise this is a bit ambiguous but.......

2014 1200gs with 32K miles won’t start. It, obviously, hasn’t been used much over the last year but I do start and run it now and again and have had no problems - the last time was about 2 weeks ago.

Tried to start it this morning - turns over okay with a strong battery but wouldn’t start. The fuel pump whir came on and went off as usual but there appears to be a residual VERY low volume, high pitch continuous tone - bike feels like it wants to start but doesn’t.

Just wondering if there was anything obvious that I’ve missed. Fuel pump controller at 32K miles? How strong does the battery need to be, sounds good but.......

Thanks for your thoughts

Kill switch off :nenau

The kill switch and starter button are the same so impossible for KS to be on when engaging the starter - but thanks for the suggestion.

Okay I went to try again this morning and bike fired up immediately but then immediately cut out and wouldn’t restart - battery still sounding strong to me.

I’m no mechanic but my guess is fuel problem.

Any mechanics in this section - home or professional?

Side stand switch fault?
Thanks for the reply
I tried to start the bike with the side stand up. Also the bike actually fired up first thing but then cut out immediately so I’m guessing that it’s not the side stand switch - but as I say I’m no mechanic.

I would test the battery or trickle it over night if you can (if not done already), sometimes there is just enough power to turn over the engine but not to start it...

Sounds exactly like what happened to my 2005 1200GS. That was fuel pump controller. Inconveniently, while on hols in Austria. Changed next day at dealer, never recurred.

Thanks for the replies - it was the battery, thank goodness.

Sounded strong ...... I’m a little unfamiliar with the LC.

I saw plenty, on the net, about fuel pump controllers on the early hex head models but nothing concerning LCs.

Time for a new battery.

Thank you for chiming in and share the solution to the issue :D :beerjug:
