Bike won't start anyone recommend a mobile mechanic Dublin?

Hi

My bike, 07 r1200GS Adventure just wouldn't start today. Last spin it ran fine but hadn't been out for two weeks and today the bike just cranked over but won't run. I had a spare new fuel pump controller and swapped that over but no joy (the controller that's in it is the modified one fitted after a recall from BMW).

I didn't have a chance to look any further but if I need to get someone can anyone recommend a mobile mechanic who can do diagnostics?

Where are you based Gerry
 
Gerry, are you an AA member or Carol Nashe customer ? Get it collected and left to Mark in Platinum bikes in Bray. Even if the location does not suit you he is worth a visit.
 
Hi

Your website was blocked as Malware by my anti-virus programme for some reason. I'll try to check that out, I use Avast as my anti virus programme.

The bike is not sorted yet as I am hoping to see ravenbyrne later and use the diagnostics to see if it will give some idea of the problem.

I'll post or phone you when I have more news.

Just call the AA and they will trail the bike down to Mark. I hope its not too serious. :thumb2
 
Thanks lads and I'll let you know how I get on. Took out one of the plugs this evening and there is no spark holding it against the cylinder head with the engine cranking over.

I'll see what the diagnostics say tomorrow evening and hopefully that will shed some light on things. After that it will be off to Mark if I can't easily fix it.
 
Seems to be! Revenbyrne very kindly called over today :thumb and everything seems to be okay with but an error did show up for the crankshaft sensor. Still a mystery as to why it cranks over well but won't start.

The AA are calling in the morning and assuming they can't get it started I'll get them to bring it to Duffy's and see what they come up with.

I'll post when I find out what it is.
 
If there is a fault with the crankshaft sensor or the wiring between it and the ecu it would cause a non start as the ecu can not tell position of the crankshaft.This is a common fault on some cars and can somtime be cured by removing the sensor and cleaning it although most times a new sensor or a repair to the wiring is required.

Just got a call from Duffy's, they say it is the crankshaft sensor and also said it was the first one they've had fail. They hope to have the part tomorrow and then we'll know for sure!

The AA guy who brought the bike to Duffy's was great. Arrived bang on time first thing this morning, was very professional, friendly and a fellow GS owner as well, thanks Mick :)

Well at least my diagnostics was correct, pity I didn't have a spare sensor in my back pocket:D

Just collected the bike and it was definitely the crankshaft sensor. Duffy's say they have never had to order one before and were betting on the fuel pump relay, €215 supplied and fitted, looks like the part is €80 plus VAT. Thanks to Patrick and the lads for organising it so quickly.

So if your bike is turning over and not starting and there is no other obvious fault this might be the reason!!
