Can anyone recommend a B&B near calais please. I have looked on all the obvious biker friendly sites but most of the B&B are quite a drive from the port. I will be arriving late evening in France on my wifes newly purchased 1974 CB200 and need a good resting place before starting the last leg of my journey back to the Pyrenees.

Cheers, Phil

If you are arriving late I recommend you use one of the chain hotels such as Etap or Ibis. They are much more receptive to late arrivals than a family run place.

CB200 ... I've fond memories of these... First ever proper bike was a 1975 model in green.... I was out at midnight on my 17th birthday :clap

Try the Villages Hotel, part of a chain, right next to Jct 44 on the A16. Secure overnight parking and there is an Aussie bar opposite for beer and nosh. :beerjug::thumb

Ace Hotel at Arras is good for a simple night stop-over. It's about an hour from Calais, if you're heading via Paris etc.

There's a decent Italian near-by, although it doesn't sell alcohol!

Free wi-fi and pretty cheap too....

Les Ballastieres

This place is an hour from Calais at Ste. Pol sur Ternoise and run by an english couple, Sue and Paul. They are both bikers and will give you a warm welcome.

We used it last week for the second time and would recommend it.

You're riding a 36 year old CB200 from Calais to the Pyrenees?

The Ibis at Saint Omer is only 28 miles from Calais, has secure parking and is reasonably priced....

Just to let you know how the trip went, after a bit of spanner work and two new tyres I left Walsall on Tuesday morning via Bristol to Folkstone by the evening, did the tunnel the next day and travelled through France by a route plotted with the assistance of "Best Biking Roads Atlas", one more overnight near Poitiers and I got home 6:00pm Thursday. The small roads were great fun and took your mind off the growing aches and pains. The whole trip was quite uneventful for all the right reasons and put many a smile on peoples faces as my 6' 4" frame somewhat dwarfed the bike!

Bloody good show! Makes the point...any bike, given enough preparation and enough time for the journey can be used to tour...and have fun!:D
