Bikesafe - far fewer locations???

I thought I would go and brush up at a Bikesafe course - I do one every few years and have always found them enjoyable and very worthwhile.

Recently I had the choice of Tadley (Reading), or Byfleet, as my closest (both about 10 miles).

Looking at the map today, it seems that there is not a single venue left in the West London / Berkshire area.

I think Bikesafe offers a really valuable service to our community and it's not good if their provision is reducing - anyone know what's going on?

Look at Safer Rider instead - there seem to be two competing systems and some Police Forces will subscribe to one or the other. Well worth doing!
 
Hi Paul,
Sorry but the Met don’t have any BikeSafe courses running at the moment, despite the officers wanting to run them. Internal politics at play.

TVP don’t run Bike Safe anymore - if you follow that link it will tell you so, it’s why I did another course run by Oxford Advanced Motorcyclists group with the local council.

I was coming on to post exactly that Gav. NW Police ( fun fact Heddlu …translates as peace keepers) are running operation Darwin to try and reduce the sixty biker serious injury / fatalities last year. Im booked on biker down in May, thats a free initiative run by the NWales fire brigade.

Great minds Steve, or fools seldom...

I have done Bikerdown via Norfolk Fire Service and found it really informative. Doing Bikesafe in June and this time round there is a lot of pre-class training material, online videos and tests etc. Can't recommend it enough, and I have been out on the bike.
 
I did Bikerdown last weekend in North Yorkshire. They work closely with the police re Bike Safe. Apparently admin of national Bike Safe has moved to a different constabulary (Derbyshire?) and there are some teething issues being worked through.

Bike safe has stopped being delivered by the Met Police. I did two from Imber Court.
There is a fantastic chap called Gordy who runs his own company I met him at Sainsbury’s in Cobham.
Younique Motorcycle Training
Worth giving him a call if you mention the GS er site you should get a discount.

Absolutely cracking day out today, lots of theory then 4 hours out and about, nice 2-1 Pupil, instructor ratio

4 x groups, we bomb burst out of Hethersett, near Norwich

We had a cracking time and met up again for lunch at the BP garage at Scole (A143/A140 intersection)

Owing to numbers, me and a lad got to go with a z1000 mounted, unmarked bike……

Can’t recommend this course enough. 👍

It depends on the force, some of the police bikers have done 5 mins on a course and been riding hardly any length of time.
 
On one of my courses, the instructor, one to one, encouraged me to ride enthusiastically along some country roads between Reading and Oxford.

Another biker, waiting to join from a side road, saw me, apparently being pursued by the marked bike, and did all he could with wide eyes to warn me!

Seen a group leaving Poole ferry port area yesterday at just after 13:00.

I have been meaning to do the course for many years, just keep slipping my mind.
 
Nippy Normans supply Touratech, Wunderlich, Desert Fox and many other makes of accessories.
