Bilco's Alaska Adventure

For the truckers on here:thumb. 2006 Peterbilt with 550 Cat engine, 18 speed fuller box, 950,000 miles and going strong. These guys run from Seattle up to Anchorage twice a month:thumb The white one hit a moose a few weeks back and you can see the damage to the moose catcher and they are solid steel:eek:

The 16 west out of Prince George is a cracking road and you ride it for around 250 miles and then turn right on the 37 which is the Cassiar Highway. If anyone thinks you would get bored on these long runs you need to think again. The scenery just keeps on coming at you:thumb

So, we are staying in hyder for a couple of days and so a visit to the Salmon Tail Glacier is in order. Unfortunately, the road near the top was blocked by a land slip which is hardly surprising given the place gets 40 feet of snow in a year. Still, well worth the ride up there and we managed to sneak a quick peek of the Glacier.

There are plenty of bears wandering around up here but difficult to get pics and they bugger off as soon as we get close.

Bilco , Re last photo. What have you done with the rest of Garfield?

All good up here and a day off today to prepare for the Dalton. Not had any internet all day and so no piccies but they will come thick and fast when we get back.

It's been pishing down all day so the Dalton will be interesting to say the least :augie I'll try not to lose too many...........

had a beer with Wilbur21 last night and he and his good lay have ridden up from South America on his KTM. Not sure he's ready to get home yet but his trip report will be fun.

Yes I met up with the chaps. Myself and my GOOD LAY (love it) had a great night. It's now raining and the boys will be very dirty when they get back from Deadhorse. The Dalton is slippery when wet (where have I seen that before) so I hope that they don't have too bad a time of it.

Dalton to Dawson

If you survive a wet Dalton the Westminster in Dawson will probably finish you off! Mike will explain. Top of the World highway is also stunning and also slippery when wet on the Canadian side!
Enjoy!!

Superb weather on the Cassiar Highway and to our great little morel in Watson Lake. It's called the Air Force Lodge and is the last of the hundreds of buildings which were erected in WW2 for the ferry pilots who flew the lend lease Airocobra's to Russia. These things were not too good and they lost plenty in the expanse of Canada and Alaska and they are still finding remains to this day.

Up the Alcan to Whitehorse where we had a mooch around he transport museum which has some great stuff including this huge electric truck which I'm sure was teh subject of a thread on here some time ago. I also loved the Asbestos hauling truck........

At a cafe on the Alcan, we came across this GS sidecar which was heavily loaded! Not my cup of tea but all you chair fanatics would have got a buzz:D
