Hi,Does anybody have details of what parts are required to convert chokes to manual operation , as in doing away with the cables , and what the conversion involves ? Thanks

Thanks John . I had wondered if there was a more sophisticated solution available as I had read somewhere that ' blanking ' plates were available as part of the conversion ? I just couldn't imagine where they would be used .

I don't know about those. Maybe Motoren-Israel would know as sound more like a "racers" part...
must get cold up there and you would need a choke:D

I have a pair of Bing carbs that have had the cables replaced with a lift up lever mounted directly on the carbs. I think it's a homemade solution but well done in stainless

Those choke eliminators are pretty simple to make yourself, with a bicycle spoke, the adjuster off an old cable, a draw knob & a cable nipple. Just solder them all together.

In the Boxer Supplies picture you can see that the 'spoke' has a bend in it. Its pretty important to get that right. The drop from the carb top to choke is not perpendicular. Any tension will see your choke come back on. Remember to make the choke eliminators work you need to remove the springs.

That said I've tried these & gone back to the handlebar mounted cable for ease of operation. I run an HPN tank. Between fuel lines, the throttle cables, & the tank, this system was not so easy to operate.

On a previous bike I just cut the cable about 2cm above the top of the carb and soldered some good quality stainless steel Ikea door knobs on for £2 :thumb2 Worked fine through two winters and sold the bike like that.

Ok! I'll ask. Why would you want to do away with the choke cables?

If it's just to clear the cables off the bars then you could convert to the pre 81 chokes, the lever for these bolt to the air box cover using a single wire cable you could easily convert this to any mechanism you want.

I think Moorespeed may do a kit for this, Richie did my carbs with a really neat little lever on each one, knowing him it wasn't a one off.
