Biologic Bike Mount for iPhone 4

Confused... In post #4 the YouTube video shows the Biologic guy showing the case with space for a phone with charging socket.
- It has a hinge and securing latch on the 'long' sides. Your pics above show a case with a top hinge.
Was that not a point of criticism in the past?
Am I right in thinking that the Bike Console is like the older type case albeit with a good mount to the M/C handlebars?

I re-read the posts... Do those two side clips make the difference over the original case?

Hi,
Yes I'm not surprised there is a little confusion as the title of this thread is Biologic case.
The case I sell is indeed an updated version of the original and yes the side clips do make all the difference. Firstly they ensure that the lid shuts correctly with no misalignment and the extra clips keep it closed !
You can see the videos of water ingress testing and drop test for the bikeconsole on their website www.ibikeconsole.com

Both the bikeconsole and Dahon biologic cases are good products (and made by the manufacturer of the bikeconsole).

Thanks Colin.
Been to your site again...
Actually, what was impressive was reading this thread in Tapatalk, off to your site, order, pay with PayPal and back to the thread without shutting tabs or windows in a browser.
Saturday am will be fine...

09.03 - Postie delivers box. 09.05 - cat playing with empty box. 09.10 - Bikeconsole on GSA.

Top service!
Only reservation is the window for the camera lens. Optically accurate it sure ain't! But that's not the end of the world...

Hi Colin...

I'm very interested in one of these, but for the iPhone 3Gs. Is the Bikeconsole for the 3G/3Gs and iphone 4 version one and the same or are there differences (*thinks, potential upgrade to the iPhone 4 later in the year)...

From a constant use perspective, how robust/ durable are the clips, seal and hinge? I do a fair bit of commuting on the bike, meaning that the phone will be in and out this case often, so wouldn't want to see the seal going or a clip breaking weeks/months in-use.

Is the Bikeconsole & Biologic made by the same manufacturer (*thinks, Warranty on the Bikeconsole).

I've highlighted a few quotes to piece together why I'm asking the above :thumb

Cheers.

Andy.

Just my two penneth..
I had the earlier biologic 3g version which I mounted on the old VStrom and it was a good case but had a massive design flaw in that the tiny metal pin that is used for the top hinge would fall out from vibration and I almost lost my phone on one occasion. It never got used again.

This latest Biologic for iPhone 4 looks much sturdier and they have obviously listened to feedback from their earlier version.
Hi Torq,
I raised this with the manufacturer and they assure me it was an early batch problem on the first model. I'd not heard of the problem before.

The motorcycle mount is more sturdy than the one supplied for bicycles and as you say fitting a RAM mount would involve glueing (or drilling).

Regards, colin

...It is not a Dahon product but is an improved version of the one they originally sold. In particular it has two additional side clips to secure the lid.

Regards, Colin.

Is the Bike Console the same as the Biologic Bike Mount?
Hi Chris,
It's an improved version of the one Dahon originally sold not the one they sell now......

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your interest. The bikeconsole should stand up to daily use for your commute. The issues regarding the hinge were early batch problems.

I do have a couple left for the iphone3G/GS. The case is the same for all models, just the silicon insert changes so you could upgrade it to iphone4 later when you get a new phone.

Best regards, [email protected]

i've just ordered one from Colin, so can't wait til tuesday for my new farkles. I shall be reporting back...

My bike mount's in place on the bars. Currently cannibalising a Hella plug and a '7 day-shop' car USB charger so it plugs into one of the GSA upper power sockets. Soldering iron packed in and after a visit to B und Q, will get a cheapie Weller type one out of Lidl's on Monday.:thumb2

Fitted and tested, Colin!

I did a 50 mile round-trip on Friday to get the bike serviced and had Skobbler sat-nav running on the iPhone on the way there (BikeConsole in 'portrait' orientation), and 'a Smart HUD' on the way back, with the kit turned to 'landscape' orientation.

Installation and operation was as-described, and the screen view had pretty much zero vibe, unsure if that was attributed to me wrapping about 8" of padded tape around the bar before adding the clamp during the install...?

Piccies taken with the iPhone, but illustrate the BikeCosole fitted to a F650GS (single) :thumb2

A gripe for me was that my GSA has a pair of power sockets at either side of the forks. Went a bit mad when ordering the bike. GPS is hard wired and works off the loom, but the LH one is occasionally used for powering an EXO2 vest.
I wanted to use the RH one to power the phone. Didn't want wiring from the battery.
Plenty options from people including Colin but all wiring based with mini USB plug or whatever. Also plenty offering a connector that will fit (might do/could do/should do) into the phone but I've had hassle before with those that fit with spring clips into the phone. They rarely fit well to the phone and besides - that large plug affair will not fit inside the Bike Console.
A gen-you-wine Apple one will. Hence some butchery of a Hella plug and a cheapie cigarette lighter socket USB charger. It cost GBP 1.06 with free postage from the 7-Day shop in Guernsey through their eBay shop. Yes, that's 1.06 - not a fiver like some of you paid the other day... :nenau

Anyway - butchery and soldery commenced and it works. GBP 1.76 for another genuine Apple iPhone USB lead, a bead of gel superglue round all the joints makes it waterproof. I could have removed the USB plug/socket and soldered the wiring into the board but I just wanted a quick fix.
I'll stick up some pics and link back to them but a pain that they can't be added into a thread without going to an external hosting site. Pfff.

Oh right. Ok... I've gone red - so no pics till I pay the subs again.

Right - Subs paid and some pictures of the rough bodgery to mate the Hella plug to the cigarette lighter USB charger. Rough as...
But it works! :)

Only hassle I found in using it today was this - I'd downloaded Memory Map 1:25000 maps for an area but although that works fine; when a txt comes in you're stuck.
The reminder that the txt is there sits 'on top of' the map and you have to stop; take off your glove; deal with it and set off again. Pff...
Such is progress.

Try sewing some conductive thread in the finger of your glove. That should do the trick.

Regards, Colin.

Perhaps around 8" of the stuff would be an ideal addition to be supplied to those who order the BikeMount version, Colin? I'll likely go buy some from eBay, but the amount provided will be OTT... :nenau

Update:

Here's another pic of my install, showing the Skobbler SatNav running. I also fitted a £5 quid 12v waterproof 'Marine' socket for the USB fag-lighter thing I recently bought from Readz (cheers matey! :beerjug: ). Works a treat :thumb2
