Biscay in a Storm

I've done 12 crossings (i.e. six return trips) since 2017. Two rough crossings, including yesterdays, which wasn't as bad as 2017(?). I suppose that's not too bad.

Next year might be a 'ride through France' year.

My 'sea legs' are still rocking about. Either that or there's a very slow, gentle earthquake happening.

In all the times I have done that crossing which must be about 10 now it has always been as flat as a millpond

I consider myself lucky as I recall Ectopic in 2017 saying for the first hour or so he thought he was going to die and then the next 12 hours wishing he would

Helmed a 38 foot Yacht for a day and a night through a Force 10. 50 knots of wind in the Bay of Biscay, no one else on board would do it at least the Wife kept handing me the odd cup of coffee and making me a roll up now and then but I struggled to make them last. Given the roll ups up know and I would have to think hard before sailing across it again.
I’ve crossed it delivering a 36’ yacht but as a storm came in we went out west a bit, that helped

September 2021, return sailing from Santander, within an hour of leaving port, I was horizontal and sick as a dog and it wasn’t overly rough, perhaps a 2-3m meter swell, but it sure rocked the boat enough to make me go 🤢.
Lightweight 😂🤩

Yep
Mother Nature cannot be tamed

That is not entirely true, of course.

Tidal power generation, tames (harnesses) the natural rise-and-fall of Mother Nature’s tides in sea and rivers. Wind farms, ‘farm’ the wind and dams / sluices control water flow. Quake resistive structures help to preserve life. At the extreme end, nuclear power, tames and harnesses the natural world at its most dangerous.

:beerjug:

PS The nutters will be out shortly, spouting on about vapour trails and man’s tinkering with ‘things beyond our ken’.

I live in the north and we are interested in the weather. I heard it on here.

I've done the crossing a few times expecting the worse but it's always been smooth; watching the dolphins shadowing the ship made the journey for us.

We had a really rough one last time came back from Santander, I necked some quells and slept though it no probs

Lightweight 😂🤩
More like I haven’t the sea legs. Otherwise haven’t touched a drop. We got soaked waiting to get in the boat, once there, it was a shower, fresh set of clothes and hit the bar, ordered a cider, sat at the table, left said cider to one of the boys and made my excuses to go up on top deck, it helped whilst up there, came back down to the bar area and bid everyone a good evening. Into the cabin I went, :barf remained horizontal until 06:30am the following day.

Calm it was too…
