Good afternoon all,

Looking for some advice, and probably someone to have a look at my 1999 R1100RT

In essence, there is a bit of a clunk when changing in to gear from the off (when riding all gear changing up and down is smooth) plus, I cannot actually get it in to 1st gear, or when it does go in, it slips out again, which is annoying when pulling away at lights, roundabouts, hills etc...

I will be doing the gear box oil this coming weekend, as it is now due but not sure that will "fix" the issue.

The bike has covered 45k now, so run in, the clutch doesn't feel like it's slipping, but something isn't quiet right.

I am based in Carmarthenshire, but can get the bike ridden or shipped to the right place, if there are any mechanics out there happy to have a good look at it, diagnose and fix.

Have you spoken to Mike at Mid Wales Motorrad an indy located on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd Wells?

Before spending any money on it, strip down the gear linkage especially the bar that connects the pedal to the gearbox input shaft. Be aware, there are two circlips holding the ball joints in position, these are known as 'ping-fuckits' for a reason. Corrosion and Road grime on these components are the root of most 1100 gearbox woes.

The 1100 engines will cause some gearchange mischief if the clutch cable mechanism isn't adjusted properly.
The process includes adjusting the clutch lever behind the engine where the cable attaches.

Good morning Steve,

Not yet, at present, I am scouting around for recommendations for people that may be able to do the investigation and spannering.

Thank you for the suggestion, this is the second time Mike has cropped up

Thanks for the advice on this, its an area I've already checked, stripped, lube'd etc - no discernible difference.

Thanks for the steer - I'll check it out.
