Bit of advice needed with exhaust mod

I have a 2002 1150GS with 'Y' piece in place of the 'cat' and stock 'can'. Runs absolutely fine with just an odd backfire on deceleration.

I have just acquired a Quill Evo 'can' and after acquiring the necessary reducer it fitted no problem but the bike runs badly and sounds awful.

It has a yellow relay thing fitted with two pins and I am wondering if I need to do the mod recommended by Steptoe or should I be looking somewhere else. TB's are in balance and tappets set OK.
Bike electronics are a 'dark-art' to me and I really don't want to do anything to 'cock' it up.

Alternatively, I'll stick with the OE 'can' on the 'Y' piece. (anyone want to buy a Quill) LOL

any advice welcome, thanks.

I've found that my 1150 ran best with the stock silencer and a Y piece...

I never found a Can that improved the running, without being too loud :blast

Thanks David for that.

I have now put the stock one back on and performance is back as it should be.

Bone:

The yellow relay thing is in the fusebox and controls, I think, the mapping. Steptoe posted a link on how to change it for different systems.

I run y piece and cobra can on 1150 - used to pop on overrun and pink under load - see Steptoes mod with the wire and spade connectors worked a treat for me - better performance and mpg ! :beerjug:

The steptoe link mod does make a big difference in my experience. I have the y-piece and standard can and without the link it ran pretty badly. With it added in it's much more responsive and runs as it should.
