Having got the Dakar back from youngest son in exchange for my TDM900, I took about the task of cleaning and repainting anything that needed painting.
Every bearing has been inspected and either re-greased or replaced if required (headrace and front wheel bearings).

Made up a sump guard that covers a bit more of the front & sides of the engine.

Here are pictures with original sump guard (re-painted) fitted and my home made jobby:-

Grand job is that sir
Anyone can buy - Is the plate steel or ally and what paint yer done it with (has it chipped yet)
dont forget yer swinging arm and shock pins - I am doing mine this week I hope

Hi & thanks for the comment.

It's 3mm alloy - I do bending, not welding ;)

The paint is Car Plan satin black primer (rattle can) bought from local garage, cos it's cheap :D

It does get worn off - it's in the direct firing line of all the crud from the front wheel after all. But it's really easy to re-spray. I've used the same stuff on several items such as this that I've made up for different machines.

If you look closely you'll see that the swing arm has been painted as well - this time with smoothrite black. I took the arm off and checked / re-greased all bearings at the same time :thumb2, so all's well in that area
