Hello

Can anybody put my mind at rest, i have just bought a 2003 R1150GS in blue and white but it has a black engine and black swing arm to the forks,is this normal as i dont seem to find any other in bike pics like it?

Cheers :)

Don't know about the swinging arm, but the black engine was an option on the 02 model when I bought mine.

Front swinging arm (telelever)

All the fastest gs's have these so don't knock it.

Hello

Can anybody put my mind at rest,

Why is your mind in turmoil ? I presume it was black when you bought it, and it hasn't changed colour overnight.

What if yours is the only black engine and telelever bike. What then. :D

oh god, mines black, there breeding:eek:

As i said, i'm new to the BMW bikes and i could not seem to find any other pictures that had black engines as standard.
Meaning i was worried that it was not standard or it has had repair work done etc.
I normally ride an MV Agusta so i dont know everything about these machines, hence why i joined this forum.
Thankyou to the people who gave me useful info..

You have the dreaded black engine syndrome.

This is not good news - essentially this means the engine black rot has set in and will slowly eat away at the metal of the engine.

You will need to go to your dealer and order a new engine and gearbox.

Steptoe, my engine started out silver (remember? you serviced it a little while ago), but it seems to be going black - and getting worse by the day.

I'm really quite concerned. It's not uniformly black - the front engine cover is worst of all, but the swing arm and bevel box are quite dark now too. The black seems to come off if I rub it, do you think I should bring it over to you to get it checked out? :nenau

What is the problem with you people? I place my first post on this forum asking a simple question looking for a simple answer..
Theres me thinking this site is for helping people not taking the piss out of newcomers to your GS'ers group..

dont take it to heart, the piss is took out of everyone,,,,,
it means they like you,

The black engined ones were not available here, there is only one I know of, it was an import by someone from the German Embassy:thumb

Raher tasty.
