Cheers Shep:thumb2 Re number plate, it's all been checked out in a proffesional manner. Velcro'd on and verified by a mate whilst riding over big bumps. There's at least an inch of clearance when the suspension compresses.:P

They were in case I couldn't get to the bottom of the missfire which was basically down to fouled plugs coz it's running mega rich.

The knobblies are just to complete the mad max look:D
No, there for the GS........ Honest.

Did a few miles on it yesterday to check all the sensors on the computer were OK, and to check the running temp etc. All seems to be OK but I'm back at work for 2 weeks now and won't have much time to fiddle. I'm going to drop it off at my local bike shop and get him to do a top end service and strip and check the carbs, then it'll be off to the dyno centre.
One thing I have noticed is how twitchy it is under hard acceleration. Even as it stands it's lifting the front wheel off the throttle and slapping like a good un when it touches back down. I think it's going to need a steering damper:o

Just picked it up today after it's had top end service and tune. A couple of the valve shims needed replacing and the carbs had a dynojet kit in hence the rough running. With the carbs properly set up and valve clearances sorted its now super smoooooooooooooooooooooth. I'm actually quite surprised just how smooth and tractable it is, much smoother than my ZX 7. I'm back at work again tomorrow then off to Deutschland on my next break so still not going to have it properly rideable for another couple of weeks:(
A full day on it and it would be somewhere near now. Just need to strip and clean the calipers and replace the pads and set the suspension up really, plus fit the screen when it eventually arrives:rolleyes:

As of today, (left my camera at home but again not much change) new chain and sprockets fitted, new manifold nuts and gaskets fitted, big bag of stainless fastners fitted, longer brake hoses and clutch cable fitted. Ran out of time as I'm on nights but am now itching to get it fired up again for a run up the roa errr private drive:D

Nice bike (not this piccy...the one a few posts before)...but I can't believe people still put heavy stainless fasteners on! You know you can get Titanium ones dirt cheap from the states...You could knock over a kilo off your bike!

Syntax Error: Does not compute:confused::confused::confused: a Fireblade is not a GS!!!!!

I dunno...my experience is with race bikes [one man pit crew and team manager for serial champ racer] so no insurance issues there, except for broken body ins:eek

I was away on my last break from work so got nowt done but I'm off for a few days on friday so hopefully I'll get it tested before Tuesday. Then the lunacy will begin:D

Shorter wheelbase? looks stubby in pic.:nenau
Nope, It's standard geometry just looks smaller without
all the tupperwear on. The guy who did the top end set-up had a standard one as well and it was weird how much smaller mine looked. Feels feckin tiny compared to the GS :P

sweet

The frame looks still well cool after all these years - you sir are doing a fab job - congrats :thumb2

A good dump will achieve a similar end result but without the expense. :D

Cheers for the comments guys (revere one excepted:P) :thumb2 What do you reckon re colours then? I was originally thinking all black (the frame and ally stuff still will be anyway) but I'm now thinking Nato matt green with matt honda decals for the tank etc????
Re the fastners I kind of agree with possu, it's never going to be a show bike and I'm not too bothered about the weight, it's a fun bike more than anything else:)

Hey Trev, I've enjoyed messing around with this and if I ride it a bit might do another one from scratch. Really fancy a 'busa motor in something like GSX1400??? What are they like in terms of low down grunt?

Well yer not building a race bike, I know...but weight is everything for accelleration, speed and cornering...

Ti fasteners are not that expensive from the USA, and taking a dump AND Ti fasteners will get you there even quicker! My mate the racer lost 2 stone and won his championship twice afterwards...(with Ti fasteners also)

I just think that after all the time and effort building such a project...I personally would be doing the best I could...and Stainless...thats out of the arc! Even ally would be better, and anodised black or matt green or whatever...hmmmm!

Still, as Kenny said...this is the tractor site!

Dude - they'll blow you're head off

My bro took mine for a spin (its been Yoshi'd that's all) and he came back a quivering wreck :D "mental, totally mental was all he could utter"

STD K8 makes 180bhp , Yoshi full system R77 takes it to 190 :eek

I used to have your Blade and it was a buzz too - you can't go wrong for the money and the satisfaction of your project I'm sure - just wish I was as capable :blast
