Just about to ask my lovely family to get a secdem(?) screen from nippy norm as a birthday prezzy, mainly because I'm tired of cleaning up the blood that's poured from my ears after being subjected to the racket that the airflow over the standard screen makes - and before anyone says it, yes I do wear plugs.

But I'd like to know whether it makes a big difference to the noise level as I don't want the money wasted.

Cheers people.

P.S. I'm about 5'10''

I'm 5'9" and have the standard screen and an Arai Quantum F.

Everything seems okay............

:beerjug::confused:

I use a secdem with tobinators and find it overal better than std. I'm 6ft. However , like lid noise/buffetting etc.. , there don;t appear to be any guarantees on curing the issue.

I'd try tobinators first on the std screen before splashing out on the secdem jobbie.

Use better ear plugs/quieter helmet, because the 1200GS with standard screen, is not a noisey combination (comparitively speaking).

At 5' 9"+ the standard screen and Arai hat I only find it noisy in gusty cross winds.

I'm 5'10" too and find no great probs with the standard screen even using a Schuberth helmet (which has to be the noisiest ever). And I loathe wind noise.

What speed are you travelling at?

Is your visor seating properly?

I have a Sedcam Screen for sale. Bought via Nipy Norman and used for approx 200 miles.

Yours for £60 + p&p

Warp speed obviously! No, seriously 70 - 90ish. It's bearable for shorter runs but after about an hour the low pitched thrumming is just awful. I too have a schuberth - bought 'cos it was supposed to be quiet (and on my vfr was quieter) but I've given up using it as the rumble isn't quite so bad when wearing an arai. Funnily enough I did a long run on the demo bike before I ordered and don't remember noticing so much noise. I've tried the standard screen in all positions, lowest is probably best but then I get loads of wind blast.

Swooper, the fact that your screen's for sale after just 200 miles doesn't inspire confidence. Why are you selling?

Nippy Norman does not sell the Secdem screen. It is a Nippy Norman screen. Moto Bins sell the Secdem screen but have none left. If you want a Secdem screen you have to speak or write in correct French - my attempt was ignored by them. I bought a Nippy Normans screen instead and it is just as good but cheaper!!

Try closing the mouth vent on your Schuberth helmet; I've got a similar set up to you, Schuberth helmet and std screen (and I'm 5'9"). With screen in lowest position and mouth vent closed, then not much noise (relatively speaking, tho' I still wear earplugs). Open the helmet mouth vent though and the noise level leaps up, mostly low frequency. Strange but true!

Secdem supply their screen in clear, smoked grey, and smoked brown. Motobins only supply the clear one.
I asked a french colleague (very handy) to order me a smoked grey one from France, for delivery to England. I would like to be able to tell you how good it is, but four weeks later, it still hasn't arrived. Apparently there is a french postal strike which has cocked up delivery times.
It makes me wonder if I would have been better buying a clear one in England!

Best cure for noise is a pair of Ultimate-Ear monitors plus an ipod - it eliminates all outisde noise.:hpbirthda

wind noise...

Hello everybody,

I am a new user, just got registered in the forum.

With my Schuberth S1 helmet, custom made earplugs and the standard screen, the low frequency
noise was unbearable. High frequency noise is completely gone.
My height is 175cm.

I bought the touratech spoiler which helps to push away the turbulences that create the low frequency noise but it does not solve the problem. There is still lots of noise that beats my ears hard and tires me on long trips. Noise at 130-140km/h is very difficult. 100-110km/h is kind of okey.

I am thinking to check the wunderlich ergo screen.
