the word is that when he (GerryC to those unfamiliar with this story) arrived in Bamoko the bike (and owner) wasn't there, as expected
It arrived the next day, strapped to the top of a bus - head gasket gone
To pass the time while waiting for the new head gasket to come Gerry has now headed off to Timbuktu, not on the Scarver, as originally intended, but by various other means of transport which have included car, bus, horse & cart, canoe, ferry, 4X4 and some sort of small motorbike.
I'll post up any further news.
No doubt there'll be a full ride report in due course

I sent the head gasket out, with some wet and dry sand paper, but it's still by no means certian that he'll be able to ride the bike home. The only word I've had since he got to timbuctu is "finally after weeks of travel, the shits". Oh, and that he's having a good time, je's due back in Bamaco on Friday, and hopefully he'll get the bike on the road soon after.
thats our gerry give him a big adventure and he has to make it bigger.

The gasket is with the bike now, it only took 3 days from the UK, so he can always DHL himself back if he can't fix the bike.

Apparently the gasket arrived in Bamoko yesterday, the other gasket is spending a few days in Timbuktu before heading back to get the spanners out. Some Irish couple he met who live in Bamoko have offered him the use of a garage but it's "by no means certian that he'll be able to ride the bike home."
I thought I'd spare our readers that bit

I got a call today and the bike is an "uneconomic repair" there's a piece of alloy melted off the head, and it's not really worth looking for a used head or trying to repair the bad one at this point.
So GerryC is off to Mauritania with Andre the slovenian in a 4x4.
