Came across this recently. Can't remember where. Might go along.

"Blood Bike South are delighted to announce that we will be holding a 'Volunteer Recruitment Evening' on Tuesday 22nd October at 8 pm, at the Greyhound track in Curraheen, Cork."

I'm curious to see what ROSPA standard they will want. The West want gold. The east settled for silver and now they have had some type of internal difference of opinion and have an offshoot called Leinster. Also heard that one of the groups are getting pissed off that they are being used as unpaid couriers. Apparently the hospitals are holding stuff (paperwork etc) untill the bikes come on in the evening and not sending them during the day by taxi. Shame really as the service seems to work well in the UK.

Over here we are expected to either be training or hold an advanced qualification, I have never herd anyone mention a minimum level.

We too have gone through the courier problem, but it's been resolved by training the users.

Good luck, it's worth the trouble.

Big turn out for this.
It will take about 6 months to set up.
Volunteers will have to be Rospa Silver at least, preferably Gold standard.
Two of the drivers behind the project are instructors.
They will give everybody an initial assessment, some instruction, then you go to Templemore to be tested by a retired Garda bike instructor.
There will be a cost but minimal.
Volunteers will be on call on a rota outside of regular hours (Mon to Fri 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and weekends.)
The Lions Club are trying to raise funds to buy the bike.
There will be no sirens and beacons. The runs won't be "life or death" runs so no pretending to be Guards.
