posted a few weeks ago about my new (6 month old) odyssey battery crapping out and not starting the bike every 2 weeks or so, made sure there was no drain on the battery, checked the alternator was working fine etc etc, so it should be fine yes? no...

yesterday went to start it and it is flat again... BALLS!!! hooked it up to charger and have ordered a new battery because i cant see any other problem than a faulty battery so just need to wait for that to arrive in the next few days,

BUT... went to start it today and the the fuel warning light came on saying its empty (has at least 25L in it) and then the range counted down from 250 odd miles to ---- in the space of a 30 min ride.. is this the fuel strip giving up the ghost!? or is the battery being flat affecting another system??

cheers joe

Maybe fuel strip maybe not. If your battery really is fbar then it is possible that the fuel gauge has 'forgotten' how much fuel was in the tank............

The reason I say this that I replaced my battery last month and had to take the new battery back to the supplier leaving my bike without power for 48hrs. When I put the battery back in I had the same as you are describing. Half a tank but fuel gauge said empty. I swore then rode down to the petrol station and filled it up. 30 seconds after filling it up and starting it it sorted itself out and was fine again. I don't know why but try filling it up first. It's cheaper than a fuel strip......

Good luck

Neil

I'm hoping it's something like that, the battery was out charging and then replaced with a new one for a day or so, tank is 3/4 full so am going to run it down then fill up hope it will sort it as I have been quoted £170 for the strip and fitting

Altho did have the guy at the dealers try an tell me that it's becaus I charged it without a BMW charger.... Told him to fuck right off

Classic fuel strip failure symptoms.

Maybe you are unlucky with two duff batteries in succession? Have you put an ammeter in series with the battery supply cable whilst bike is off?
