On the way back from my 600 mile service for my new 1200 ADV I had a blow out on the motorway yesterday. The ASC kicked in immediately. First I didn't know what had happened - thought the clutch had gone, then I realised I had a flat rear tyre and the ASC briefly kicked in. I must have been doing 85 miles an hour. After the engine renengage I could still steer the bike, it just wobbled a little. It was a very strange feeling when the ASC engaged and I wonder how the bike would have reacted without it when the puncture happened.
I will speak to my dealer on Monday. I wonder if the tyre is under warranty if no foreign object caused the puncture. Also, does the puncture need to be investigated by a BMW dealer or can I go to any tyre place to get this fixed?
Oh, and is it worth putting that stuff in the tyres that fixes any holes automatically? Lastly, amybody know how long I am entitled to take advantage of BMW's recovery service - is it linked to the warranty? I used them yesterday and they got me off the road within 60 minutes.
Incidentally, it was a pretty horrible day yesterday for road users in generel. I saw no less than 4 accidents, all but one on narrow country lanes between Northampton and London - 2 of which looked very nasty indeed. And today I read in the papers that there was a pile up on the M25 with fatalities when a truck swerved across lanes. 5 bikers and 3 cars were involved.
I hate seeing and hearing about these things - always gives me nightmares for a few days. Be safe out there!
