On my last ride out (roughly 3 weeks ago ) i noticed when i started the bike i had the lamp fail on the dash, sure enough the headlamp bulb was off, as you sit on the bike its the right hand side one.

being a lazy get ive only just got round to changing it today , so i changed the bulb and carefully placed the new ice blue H7 55w bulb making sure i never touched the glass , conected it back togother and turned the igition on, it flashed for a nanosecond and blew.......... as it happens i bought two new ones so after cursing a replaced the new one for another....new one, guess what same thing happened again...................

i made sure i never touched the glass part of the new bulbs and they where fixed in place correctly,. , any ideas??? before i buy another couple of bulbs

the dipped bulb and main beam works perfect as does the rear light all the indicators and the horn.

I'm a bit confused.

My headlight only comes on once the engine has started. Can you see that the bulbs have blown i.e: Blackened glass or broken filament?

broken filament mate, obviously the original one was bust , first one i put in and turned ignition on , the dipped lamp comes on straight away and the headlamp just flashed slightly for a split second, i took it out and it had blown???? i replaced witht the spare new one and this one done exactly the same??

Sounds like a voltage prob with the bulbs sure these aint 6volt have a look at the rating should be on the cap. Hands on glass wont blow bulbs just make a mark. Take 'em back to shop with suggestions for their future use possibly somewhere where the sun don't shine. Buy new somewhere else.

Are you sure it's blown? When the ignition is turned on, it sends a pulse through each circuit to measure the resistance and determine if the bulbs are OK. After starting the engine, the circuit is then energised and the bulb should light.

You're not confusing this pulse with a blown bulb, are you?

Geordie, it may not be the bulb, as you sit on the bike look at the back of the headlight enclosure, bottom left side you'll see the connector from the loom to the lights, its a 3 pin plug i think. Give it a good push and make sure you have a good connection then switch on an see what happens.

I replaced a buld only to find the fault was a loose connection, it re-ocurres every few weeks/months but is an easy fix. Mines an 06, and seems to be not unusua.l

yep, start the bike up and see what happens. I was in exactly the same position as you first time I replaced a headlamp bulb and it just wanted the bike to be running to see that some checking-system was at its work.

er er er ive only been riding bikes 21 years so its al new to me, after starting the engine the nice blue tinted headlight bulb ...................works perfect:thumb2

the flash that i assumed was the bulb blowing must have been a pulse after all, however the first one i put in definataly bust as i coule see the broken filament, the second one after it flashed (pulsed) i just walked away in disgust

never thought to have the engine running as all the other bikes i have had including my f650 just work off the ignition

thanks to everyone who chimed in, im off to poundland to buy some replacements just in case
