Blue exhaust

My friend get Autosol Chrome its the canines undercarriage at dealing with blue pipes I agree on the cleaning of them too much blueing looks awful IMHO. :)

I've tried using Autosol, as I have a tube in the garage, but it did nothing!:nenau

Usual varied suggestions - some correct some not.
DONT use Optiglanz - this is for plain stainless steel pipes.

If you want pipes clean and shiny you have to polish them from birth!
If you've left it for thousands of miles try a very fine wire wool with Autosol.
It will take a while but persist.
When blue has gone, polish again with Autosol (I use an old sock wrapped twice around the pipe and an old toothbrush) and polish.
Then you need Brilliant (Chrome/Hot environment/Nickel Polish) Cleaner):

Polish with this and after riding it will still blue a little but not as bad as before and it will be easier to polish up next time.

Chrome needs cleaning otherwise it, like stainles steel will oxidise and after a whlie go rusty, especially if a nick penetrates the chrome skin.

Picture shows my GSA June 2010 with 6240 miles on clock and still looking good.

Great, thanks Mike. The bike is only 3 weeks old, so if I start as I mean to go on, it should stay looking good!:beerjug:

One question; where can I get a metal plate similar to yours that covers the exposed part of the exhaust?
 
Mine went a lovely blue colour initially, really bright and vibrant. They're much more muted now, very dull really. I wish I could get that bright blue back
 
I totally agree with Mike autosol is best I've used however it does take a lot of effort. Mike can I also enquire about that plate where can I get one?

There's no accounting for taste. I prefer my bike to look like it is actually ridden, not as some sort of shrine. Why not just treat the blueing as a badge of honour and not something to be avoided?
 
The previous owner of my GSA never cleaned the chrome pipes, they have small areas where road salt has etched itself permanently in to the chrome.

Looks like I'll be fitting the set of stainless sports headers and Power Commander I've set aside (once the bike is out of warranty).:D
