Anyone with an LC on here experiencing loads of blue smoke out of exhaust on cold start. Mines a 2014 model. This is definitely oil being burnt and takes about a minute or so to clear. Latter start ups when hot there is no smoke at all. I have tried leaving it on the centre stand and side stand and it makes no difference.
Also I am experiencing the engine pulsing/surging when going through towns at 30/40mph in 2nd or 3rd gear.
Look forward to your replies guys.

You say it's burning oil? Have you noticed a reduction in the sight glass?

Sounds like a sick bike, blue smoke is not usually good news, but think positive it could be just a blocked breather pipe.

Back to the dealer while it is still under warranty.

Good luck

It only smokes on cold starts. Its definitely oil being burnt going by the colour and smell of the smoke. 6000miles on bike. Sight glass level seems to be ok.
Oil is getting into the pots over a time while bike is parked up somehow, possible valve stem seals or ring problem. Its not acceptable on a bike 9 months old with 6k miles on it. My 1978 Ford escort does not do this or any 70s VW Beetles that I or the wife had over the last 10 years. Which is a similar engine i.e a boxer engine. Its quite embarrassing starting the GS up with the amount of smoke that emits from its pipe, totally unacceptable.
Bike is going into BM on monday for a 6k service and this will be the second time its been in for the above faults. To be perfectly honest I am very disappointed in this bike. I've had many in line fours Thundercat, Fazer1000s and a Hayabusa which I sold to get the GS and none of them smoked like the GS.

I have an LC and very occasionally, if I leave it on the side stand, I can get some blue smoke on starting.Never anything if I use the centre stand

Is it just a little and is gone within seconds, mine will puff for upto a minute tho over that time it is reducing

IMO it shouldn't do that so I'd go back to the Dealer. I had this issue with a 50k 1150 but only for a few seconds. Blue smoke is not good on a low mileage bike. Did you run it in ?

Yeh I ran it in the same as all my other bikes no redlining and not labouring it, varying speeds etc.
Its going in on Monday for 6k service and hopefully to sort the problems out.

A poorly head methinks, but unlikely to be fixed with an aspirin.

LC's don't use oil...unlike the air-cooled which did enjoy a wee sip every now and then.

I don't understand how you say it's burning oil, yet the oil level in the sight glass is fine.:nenau It can't be burning that much then.

Well i suppose its got to be using some cos where do you get blue smoke from that smells like burning oil. Once a minute has passed there is no smoke and exhaust gas does not smell of burnt oil. I dont think its acceptable on a new bike and it appears to be getting worse. Whats it going to be like with another 6k on it.
The uneven running between 30 and 50 is very annoying and has not been sorted after throttle valve sync which the dealer said was done.

Until you're seeing a reduction of oil in the sight glass, I wouldn't worry about it.

It's a 2014 bike, get it back to BMW, it's their problem not yours!

is the breather dumping oil into the air filter, then sucking it in the engine on start up.
