Hi all... anyone have any advice on what these are for? Still trying to figure out if any of the spare sockets under my tank are for heated handlebars.... i do appear to have the fuse in there for them...
Fuse:

Blue sockets:

There is also another set of brown plugs which are just 'hanging about'?
Black sockets:

Any advice welcome!

Obviously the order of the pics is a bit off... 1st & 2nd are blue plugs… 3rd is the fuses...

I've a feeling that the two black connectors with the brown/black wires might be for the wiring to the grips (i.e. the heater elements), one each side. It's been a while, so not sure...

Do you have the heated grip switchgear? Maybe that's what the blue connector is for.

I'd have a poke around with a multimeter; not sure if the two heat settings on the BMW switch are done by series/parallel connection of the elements, or if there are separate ballast resistors somewhere. But if they are the connectors, you'll have power, earth and various pins on the blue and black connectors that are connected via the wiring loom.

Looking at Motorworks selection of heated grips here: http://motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=30&Ct=OA&SbCt=BA_15_30_OA_60, the connector on the end of the wiring in the pictures looks like a match for the two black connectors you have (probably; the image is a bit small).

And there is a promising looking blue connector on the heated grip switchgear partway down the page here: http://motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=30&Ct=IA&SbCt=BA_15_30_IA_55

Are you trying to fit standard BMW parts, or splice something else into the existing loom?

Apparently the blue plugs are for the BMW alarm system...
I'm trying to connect heat demon grip heaters but want to use the bmw switch gear. I got the switchgear because the indicator cable was worn through somewhere…

I guess if you've got the switchgear you should be able to match up the plug from the heated grip switch to it's opposite number on the loom? If so, sounds easy enough to confirm the other two connectors are the feeds to the grips (should see volts across them with your new switch turned on) then connect them up to your new heated grips.

Good luck!

Oh dear not the unused blue and brown sockets on a R1150.
You know what that means?

Apparently not! But I've been riding her without them in use for the last 6 years - so probably not something detrimental! :p
