blueflame fitment to '09 1200gs.

Hi All,

My beautiful wife got me my blueflame can for christmas so i'll spend some time in the garage trying to fit it over the holidays.

Fitting exhausts onto my old XJR was simple, undo a couple of nuts and off they came. having looked at the bike last night it looks almost as simple except i need a torx(?) head for one of the attachements.

the kit only came with one exhaust clamp for the link pipe so i am assuming i'd have to reuse the original...

any hints or tips to help me install this as pain free as poss would be great.

I have the intention to photograph and document the procedure to help future numptys... and also video the before and after to get soundbites of the finished product....

How galling... Nearly a day gone and it's the only reply you have got as to how to make the process as pain free as poss....

Look forward to the pic's and film. Not surprisingly, there is an entire thread within the 1200 Technical Section devoted to the best way to record the raughty roar....

PS Taking off the nearside pannier helps.

The process is the easiest job on the bike. Two bolts....bingo:thumb.

Make sure you use plenty of WD40 on the link pipe when taking off and refitting the new can. You probably then won't need a hammer :augie
 
I'd be interested to see the write up and any pics... I've been having a look at that blue flame with the carbon cap on, looks tasty
 
Mate. Just fitted a full system to my 06 1200- easiest bike I have worked on

I assume Wapping got some pleasure from his contributions but I'm not sure they were helpful.

I believe the spirit of this forum is that members should be able to ask questions without sarcasm or ridicule otherwise it discourages those of us who are reasonable new to ask technical questions.
 
Well said Drumacoon Lad. This is the first forum I've been on where the Moderators are the biggest piss takers.
I'll stay a 30k miles a year rider and not a "tosser".
Riding all year round keeps ya skin hard on the palms...................

Know what you mean,see post 4, thread on OWNER'S MANUAL,by Dahoum.There are many more like this by mods and their clique.

havent fitted the can yet.... we have been up north for christmas and have come back to the house today. i intend to fit the can tomorrow..... after a trip to halfords to get a set of star bits to remove the original can...

hope to get decent pics... video will be a bit of a challenge but should be able to sort something out.

Don't know about pleasure but he's possibly one of the top three most helpful people on the forum. Incidentally, they're not folk who hold back on sarcasm either. Wapping is also always worth reading.

Close. You can ask anything and you'll also get a useful answer, eventually. Naive questioning will always get you some flak though. That's the spirit of this forum. Reminds me of the boatyard I worked in in my teens.

If you realy want to know the spirit of the forum, just try asking about engine oil.

You forgot to mention as to wheter it was safe for someone who needs to ask how to fit an end can to ride a motorcycle on the roads.
Jeez so quick to criticise others and totally ignore the dumbass original post
 
OK guys I did realise putting on an end can was not the greatest technical challenge but it is not a make that is mentioned often here. The guy has now put up a good post with video and audio of exhaust note, which will be interesting to some. So let's continue to draw people in and not push them away, and they can become contributors too in time.

I too have seen many other useful and informative posts by Wapping, it was those in this thread which I commented on.

As to what level of technical knowledge you need to ride a bike safely, again I don't think we should be too prescriptive. On this forum we have those who take the FD apart for fun and take great pictures, like our friend in Galway, and others who take their bike to the dealer for everything, who can say which is the safest approach. At least Eoghan was doing the work himself and now knows his bike better for it.

Should there be a technical test before we can buy a bike? Join this forum? There lies madness! Let's just ride the things!
